Living the Life in the Greek Islands

Welcome to Travel Tuesday!

Today I am sharing one of my favorite destinations in Europe: Mykonos, Greece.
Mykonos, Greece

After spending two weeks traveling around Italy and France H and I were looking for somewhere to go and relax on the beach. I always dreamed of visiting the Greek islands so we headed over to Greece for the last two weeks of our trip. Mykonos was the first island we visited and it captured me with its charm, beautiful beaches, and friendly locals.

Mykonos, Greece
To get to Mykonos we took a ferry from the port Piraeus in Athens. You can easily arrive to the port by bus, metro or cab. Blue Star Ferries was the company we traveled with and it was around €35 for a way one ticket from Athens to Mykonos.

H and I were traveling to Mykonos in September so were able to get some amazing deals on our accommodation since it was the end of the tourism season. We stayed at Mykonos Beach Hotel, which I highly recommend to anyone visiting Mykonos!

MykonosOur hotel package (which cost us €183 for 4 nights) included free port pick up and drop off, a daily breakfast buffet which was delicious, and a scooter rental. The location was excellent as well with a beach out front and just a 10 minute walk into the town. I think H and I’s favorite part about our accommodation though, besides the tasty breakfast, was our scooter rental.

I highly recommend renting a scooter. We were able to travel all over the island and explore more then we could have if we relied on the buses. And driving around on a scooter is just a ton of fun!

Mykonos, Greece
H and I spent our 4 days on the island visiting the beautiful beaches of Mykonos. They really have a beach for any type of mood you may be in as well. If your looking for a party head over to Super Paradise beach or Paradise beach.

For a quieter beach day visit Paraga beach. Or spend a morning before it gets too hot exploring around the island on your scooter and discovering gorgeous smaller beaches. No matter what beach you chose you will be greeted with beautiful white sand beaches and bright blue water.

After spending our days relaxing on the beach H and I spent most of our evenings wandering the charming small streets of Mykonos.

Browsing the small shops filled with colorful local crafts, enjoying amazing Greek food, even getting lost in the tiny streets, it was all wonderful.

The cherry on top, the beautiful sunsets we could enjoy from our room balcony.

Our time in Mykono’s was amazing and I hope to make it back there again one day!

Question of the Day?
Have you ever been to Mykonos? What is your favorite beach destination to visit?

Mykonos looks so beautiful and looks like a lovely and affordable 4 days! I love that you got a scooter rental in the package and got to use it to explore the island. Would love to do that.

    • Kaelene Spence

We got such a great deal on our accommodation package. A wonderful place to stay!

  • Ellen

Great pictures – I want to go back in Greece! I always love the white buildings in there – they kind of seem to sparkle in the sunlight.

    • Kaelene Spence

I would love to go back to Greece, was such an amazing place to visit!

  • Madaline

Gorgeous! It seems in the past two weeks EVERYONE I meet (and read online!) keeps saying how the Greek Islands are a “must” (even a 9year old!). I’m pretty convinced that this is where I’m going to have two spend some of our two week ferragusto at (Italian holiday where Italy pretty much shuts down for two weeks in Aug.)

    • Kaelene Spence

Yes I highly recommend heading over to Greece if you get the chance, such an amazing place I loved it!

  • Cynthia

I love exploring the charming little streets like the ones from your photos above! I’ve never been to Greece yet (possible honeymoon destination?) but I think getting lost on the cute little lanes was my favorite part of visiting Cinque Terre in Italy.

    • Kaelene Spence

The little streets are some of my favourite places to explore. Greece would be a beautiful honeymoon destination!

  • ElenasTravelgram

Fantastic photos! The islands with these gorgeous beaches and white houses along with Athens have been on my radar for quite a while! Guess, I know which direction I’ll be heading this autumn :)

And what about gas for the bikes? Is it included or should you fuel it yourself?

    • Kaelene Spence

Yes I highly recommend heading over to Greece. The gas wasn’t included but it was quite cheap to fuel up.

  • Sophie

So much travel envy right now!! I’m trying to find a time to book a beachy island holiday this summer but so far, no luck! Gorgeous pictures, and thanks for the beach tips :)

Mykonos looks incredible. I’m going to Athens, Crete and Santorini in July, and I couldn’t be more excited to get to know Greece! These photos make me wish I had planned a stay in Mykonos too. I might be too nervous to rent a scooter though – are Greeks crazy drivers?

    • Kaelene Spence

Your trip is going to be amazing! I really wanted to go to Crete on our trip but I did make it to Santorini and loved it! It was a bit scary driving around on the scooters, the roads weren’t too crowded since we were there at the end of the season but I could imagine when a lot of people are out and about it can be a bit crazy.

  • Kathy@Vodka and Soda
