I Was a Cheerleader For a Night

Happy Monday Everyone!

Today is a Monday/Friday for me since tomorrow is Iceland’s Independence Day. I am really looking forward to joining seeing all the celebrations happening around the city, it sounds like quite the fun day!

First though let’s back up and talk about what an amazing weekend I had!

Friday evening we headed to H’s office summer party for an eventful night. I have met his co-workers a few times but anytime I am going into a group setting with lots of Icelandic being spoken I get really nervous. It was a good thing I had a bubble to stay safe.

Bubble Ball

Has anyone else played bubble ball before? It was so difficult standing up in those things after you got knocked over, which for me was every few seconds! This game was a blast though and is definitely one way to break the ice when getting to know new people.

Bubble BallBubble BallAfter an eventful game of bubble ball I was recruited to teach everyone how to play beer pong. Apparently if your from America it automatically means your a pro beer pong player. Good thing I am!

Beer PongH and I take our beer pong games very seriously, we have to keep our undefeated streak going!

Another thing others automatically assume if your a blonde from America, your a cheerleader and should have no problem climbing on top of the pyramid that all the drunk ladies think is an amazing idea.

H Work EventThis is what happens when H let’s me loose at his work parties:)

Saturday was a big day in our house, it was H’s birthday and I wanted to make the day extra special after he spoiled me on my birthday!

Birthday BasketBirthday DinnerSteakhusiðBirthday pancakes, an amazing birthday gift basket (I am quite proud of my creative skills for this gift;), and a nice dinner out, I would say my handsome guy had a great day.

Sunday morning we woke up bright and early to head out for a hike at Esjan.

Esjan
This hike was extra special to me. Every year on Father’s Day ( a very happy Father’s Day to my amazing Dad) my family goes on a hike at my Dad’s favorite spot. This is the first year I was going to have to miss the hike with my family but I wanted to keep the tradition alive so I brought the hike to my Dad with lots of photos.

I hope one day I can take my Dad on this hike, Esjan is so beautiful. A big shout out to my amazing Dad, he is the best Dad a girl could ask for and I am so blessed to call him my Dad. Without his love and support I don’t think I would have been brave enough to make the move to Iceland, run a marathon, heck I probably would still have my training wheels on if it weren’t for him. I hope you had a wonderful day Dad, I love you!

Father's Day
An amazing weekend indeed. Now I have a case of the Monday blues after looking at all my pictures from this past weekend! Hope everyone had an amazing weekend and a Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s out there!

Question of the Day?
Have you ever played bubble ball? Does your family have any traditions they do on Father’s Day?

Literally cracking up at your pyramid photo- amazing. (How late was it when it was taken? How are you liking “the midnight sun” lately?) Looks like your weekend was definitely fabulous. I’ve never heard of bubble ball until I watched last season of the Amazing Race when the contestants had to run through the narrow streets of a Spanish city being hit by other “bulls” (because the bubbles were made to look like a bull). Dying to try it now.

That photo was taken around 1am and that is probably the darkest it gets outside right now. I am getting use to the midnight sun so it isn’t hard to fall asleep but I do wake up much earlier! Bubble ball is a blast but so exhausting trying to stand up every time you get knocked over!

You guys are SO cute! That bubble ball looks AMAZING!!!!!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Thank you :) Bubble ball was a blast!

  • http://www.rhymeandribbons.com/ Amanda @ Rhyme & Ribbons

Bubble ball loos like the best thing ever. I want to play immediately! I also really want to go zoorbing, which seems kind of similar! x

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It is such a fun thing to play! I was exhausted afterwards but it was worth it!

  • http://agirlandhertravels.com/ Polly

I am never more patriotic as when I’m teaching/forcing foreigners to play beer pong. USA!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Haha it is so very true!

  • http://bristolinmypocket.blogspot.co.uk/ Sara Rose

Hahaha, bubble ball looks amazing! And all my friends want me to teach them beer pong.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It seems that if you have gone to college in the US you are automatically considered a beer pong champion!

Kit, love the photos of the hike and that you’re keeping our tradition alive on Father’s Day. It was a special day, but like I told your sisters……. every day is Father’s Day….. isn’t it? The girls and Mom gave me some great cards! In the afternoon, we took the dogs down to the river on the Greenway, where Shelbi had her graduation pictures. Azora was a beast fetching a stick for over 30 minutes. Play hard - sleep hard, I think that is her motto! Hopefully you told H about our tradition! I look forward to the time I can be in Iceland you take on your hike there. What a beautiful mountain! Good to see that you did listen to somethings I said over the years!
Always remember this! “If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together… there is something you must always remember. you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.”
I love my Kit and miss you every day, but so happy you are out there living life and taking the great experience of it all!
    Love, Dad

Awe thanks for the comment Dad. I couldn’t let you down and not do our traditional Father’s Day hike no matter where in the world I am! Glad you had a wonderful day! I hope you can be here in Iceland hiking with me one day as well :) Love, Kit

Your and H’s birthdays are quite close together. What was in the hamper? I am intrigued. It’s not Father’s Day in Aus until September, but it was nice to see lots of dads and kids out and about on Sunday here!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

They are really close together, I think next week we should just plan a big trip to celebrate both of our birthdays! It was so fun putting the hamper together. It had a theme of my “ideal man” with things like ” a good cook” and the gift was a bunch of fancy spices. Such a fun gift to put together!

He he - All American women can play beer pong and cheerlead can’t they? That is definitely the stereotype in my head! Looks like a lot of fun - especially on the hike.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Of course, it is what we go to college for :) Good thing I enjoy playing beer pong since I am often recruited to teach others how to play!

  • http://voyageofthemeemee.com/ Amanda MeeMee

I want to play bubble ball so bad! Reminds me of those sumo wrestler costumes! haha

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It is so fun to play! Not the easiest after a few drinks but a blast!

  • Lisa @ Ameliorer la Vie

I never knew about the bubble ball game! At first glance, I thought it was an Ogo and even though it’s not, the bubble ball game seems just as fun!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It was so fun to play!

  • http://visitors.blogg.se Chris Mauritzson

Bubble ball game - looks dangerous. ;) http://visitors.blogg.se

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I definitely was sure to avoid the players who were hitting each other quite rough!

  • http://letuswanderlust.blogspot.com/ Carly @ Let Us Wanderlust

Looks like it was a wonderful weekend! I hope H had a lovely birthday! Looks like you made sure he did :) p.s. I love your hair for your dinner date! So pretty x

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Thank you Carly :) It was a great weekend!

  • http://sophieinclogs.com Sophie

Everyone always assumes I’m a pro beer ponger … not so :P Glad you are, it makes it far less uncomfortable!! Those bubbles look AMAZING though, as does Esjan! I love NL but I do wish we had mountains, or even hills!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I always feel extra pressure to win when I play with people from abroad since they expect me to be amazing! Makes the game so much more stressful lol.

  • http://hemborgwife.wordpress.com/ Bailie @ The Hemborg Wife

Those balls are scary looking, heheheh, but seriously I do not think I could handle that!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I was really nervous to get hit at first but then after the first few times I got the hang of rolling myself back up and it was so fun.

  • http://luyoutravel.blogspot.com/ Elizabeth Georgian

What is bubble ball? That looks like something I would love to do

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Basically your in a plastic ball running around playing soccer and bumping the other players. It is really fun!

  • http://www.chicadeedee.com/ Dannielle @ Chicadeedee

I loved everything about this post. Bubble ball looks hilarious, and I want to party with you. The beer pong and being american thing is so true as well. That and any other form of drinking game!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Isn’t it though! Anytime I have gone to a party here they want me to teach them how to play beer pong! Head over to Iceland! The night scene is a blast here.

  • http://www.notentirelyperfect.com/ Stephanie

hahaha I love that they assume you rock at beer pong. I’m not good, but I love playing!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Haha every time I am at a party here they want me to teach them beer pong or challenge me. Good thing I love playing as well!

It was so much fun putting the basket together as well!
