Just Go For a Run

Hello and happy Monday from a still very snowy Iceland!

Iceland
It has been snowing like crazy this weekend and I have officially decided the weather in Iceland is completely confused!

Iceland Snow
Luckily for both mine and H’s sanity we had a brief break in the snow storm on Sunday and I was able to get out for a run. Running is my de-stress time so when I don’t get my runs in I tend to become a bit unbearable to live with.

Iceland Snow Run
I just love having my running path along the water. I can’t wait for summer when I will get to use these paths more than once every few weeks.

Iceland Running Path
While I was out on my snowy run I started thinking about the places I have gone for a run and which ones were my favorites. I always try and go for at least a quick run whenever I am traveling, I think its a great way to explore the area and get your work out in. It took me a bit to narrow it down but here are my three favorite running paths, besides Iceland and Oregon of course.

1. Paris, FranceParisWhen I spent a week in the Paris countryside I stayed right along the river that ran through the town. The running path took you along the river a few miles out to the countryside and it was absolutely gorgeous.

Paris
This part of the pathway reminded me of what I imagine the entrance to the Secret Garden would look like. I am so glad I packed my running shoes on this trip!

2. Sydney, Australia
Sydney, Australia
During my 4 months in Australia my roommate and I found some beautiful running trails. My favorite ones were when we could see the Sydney skyline and ocean in the distance.

Sydney, Australia
You would almost always see the harbor filled with sailboats as well and I thought they looked so beautiful gliding across the water. Oh how I miss Australia.

3. Naxos, Greece
Naxos, Greece
H and I spent 5 relaxing days in the beautiful Greek island of Naxos and during our time we stayed at a hotel right on the beach. It was as amazing as it sounds. Since we were right next to the beach I couldn’t pass up the chance to get out for a few morning runs.

Naxos, Greece
I headed out every morning we were in Naxos for a run along the beach with the gorgeous sunrise lighting my way. It was heaven!

For now I will continue to day dream about warmer runs while I continue to power through the snow. I can’t wait tell the snow is gone and my running trails in Iceland go back to looking like this.

Iceland Running TrailIceland you can decided its time for Spring now!

Question of the day?
What’s your favorite place to run?

Ha! I love that snowman though! I’ve always wanted to go to Greece but haven’t had the opportunity (and money) to yet! x

Wasn’t the snowman awesome, I had to stop and grab a picture. I wish my travel fun would get filled over night! I would love to go back to Greece.

Hahaha, that snow woman! Soooo cool!

Haha there was so many snowmen all over the city this weekend but this one was my favorite!

I wish I was a runner but I just can’t get into it!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It took me awhile but now I am hooked. Never easy for me to get back into it though after I take a break!

if Iceland decides to get its act together, tell it to get in touch with Chicago and give it some pointers. I honestly feel like winter is never, ever, ever going to end. a tan doesn’t even seem like a real thing anymore!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I don’t even remember what its like to step outside and feel warm.

I love the Paris countryside run! I was obsessed with the Secret Garden when I was younger and whenever I see something that it your picture it instantly reminds me of how much I loved that movie! I think my favourite running spot would be along the beach at the Sunshine Coast (Queensland, Australia). It was soooo beautiful to run along the sand, watch the waves roll in and the sun set after work each day!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I was in love with the movie as well! I don’t blame you, the sunshine coast is so beautiful!

So impressed that you go running in the snow! Got me motivated to hit the gym and get better with my own running - I’m still at the jog/limp stage but I have grand visions of myself running along the dunes this summer :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It hasn’t been happening often thats for sure. Any sort of walk/run counts!

I miss them so much as well! I can’t wait to get some sunshine to melt away the snow so I can see the trails again.

That Paris run looks incredible!! My favorite place to run is anywhere by the water! I grew up in Florida and started running on a causeway so that will always be my happy-running place!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I agree, I love running by the water it is so peaceful!

I would be happy to visit those three let alone run there as well :-) Paris is so beautiful! Australia and Greece are on my bucket list of places to visit!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I am dreaming of Australia and Greece right now. Those beautiful warm places are at the top of my list to go visit. Maybe a honeymoon is needed in Greece or Australia for you guys:)

  • http://agirlandhertravels.com/ Polly

All those places look great, but I’ve got to put in my vote for the awesome Icelandic views.

If I could go running anywhere again, I’d do it in New Zealand. Now that was some LOTR-level experience there!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I would love to go to New Zealand, have you seen the “hobbit town” there? It looks amazing.

Greece is tops on my list of places I want to go- Santorini especially.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I loved Santorini and wish I had more time there!

I ran yesterday in shorts around Ely and I was so, so, so happy to be running in shorts!! I am a warm weather runner, so this new British winter has been holding me hostage. Running in Greece would be amazing….maybe one day :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I agree, I love running in warm weather, when the sun is out I rarely miss my runs. The cold winter though has not been very motivating.

Paris countryside=GORGEOUS! :) Can’t wait to visit Iceland though!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I can’t wait to hear all about your trip. I hope the snow will be gone and it will be a bit warmer on your visit!

I gotta say that running isn’t my favorite exercise haha. I like sprinting though, so I like to run in a stadium because it has its own tracks! I’m so jealous that Iceland still has snow!! It’s Spring already here in Bremen (and the entire Germany as well I guess). I like the pretty flowers that start blooming though, so… I’m mixed.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I wish we had spring starting here, I miss seeing pretty flowers!

  • http://ifsandsandbutts.com/ Alex

Man I just wish I liked running, but in places like that, I think I could actually enjoy running :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It helps make the run a bit less painful with views like that.

  • BlushandBarbells

Totally off-topic but I have always wanted to go to the gym in Iceland. Apparently it’s a nation of bros!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Yes! The gyms are always packed with some bros, everyone is in awesome shape here I love it!

I had an amazing dirt trail along a canal in NJ… here in Taiwan I can run on a sidewalk next to a scooter-smog road, or literally up a mountain. but reading this post still makes me want to go for a run!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Ugh ya that is not the most ideal situations for running outside. But at least you don’t have snow outside in March!
