A Summer to Remember

My first summer in Iceland is going to be a summer for the books! Hikes to hot springs, BQQs under the midnight sun, concerts, vacation and more, oh how I love summertime!

Here are a few things I am most looking forward to this summer.

Midnight Sun Half Marathon
In two weeks I am running the Reykjavik Midnight Sun Run that starts after 9pm. Hopefully the sun will be out that day so us runners will be treated to some views of the beautiful midnight summer sun.

Midnight sunWith views like that I have no problem running a half marathon! Well hopefully I won’t have a problem, crazy stomach and side aches please stay home.

Five weeks Summer vacation!
Yes you read that right, starting on June 27th I am off work for 5 weeks with full pay. Thank you Icelandic summer holidays! I will be sure to use every day off to the fullest and can’t wait to get to sleep in for a few weeks.

Celebrating Iceland’s Independence Day
June 17th is Iceland’s Independence Day and I am really looking forward to joining the festivities this year. I love the 4th of July in America and all the patriotism so it will be a fun experience to celebrate a different countries independence day.

Croatia!!!
Two weeks island hoping in Croatia, need I say more? I can’t wait to explore the Game of Throne sites in Dubrovnik, relax on the beach with a tropical cocktail in Korčula and Hvar, and end the trip with a bang at the beautiful hotel resort we are staying at in Split! As if this trip isn’t amazing enough I get to visit London for the first time during a day long layover, can it be July 14th already!

Hiking Fimmvörðuháls
At the end of this month we will be hiking Fimmvörðuháls, a hike I have been wanting to do ever since I saw H’s photos from his work trip there. The hike takes you between two glaciers in the south of Iceland the landscape looks absouletely stunning. I can’t wait to see these views in person!

Justin Timberlake Concert
My inner pre-teen dreams are finally coming true! I never got to go to a N*Sync, but lets be honest I only ever wanted to go to see Justin. When H got pre-sale tickets for this concert from work I was jumping up and down and squealing with excitement. Bring on the SexyBack!

Þjóðhátíð - Iceland’s Music Festival
If you talk to just about any Icelander you will hear them rave about this weekend music festival on the Westman Islands. I know I have heard dozens of stories about how amazing this weekend is from H and his friends and I am looking forward to finally experiencing it for myself. Check out the video for one of the biggest parties in Iceland.

Like I said, a truly amazing summer is ahead of me and I can’t wait to get the fun started!
