10th Month in Iceland by the Numbers

10 months already! I can’t believe I am closing in on my one year expatversary. This has been a rollercoaster year so far and who knows what these next two months have in store for me!

Backing up to this past month it was a busy one over here for me. An amazing vacation in Croatia, beautiful hikes in Iceland, back to work after summer holiday and enjoying the sunshine that has finally made an appearance in Iceland! Here are my favorite memories from my 1oth month abroad.

10 days spent enjoying the beautiful CroatiaCroatia
Our Croatia trip was amazing, this country is beyond beautiful! A recap of our trip is coming soon!

Dozens of tiny alleyways in Croatia wandered through

I think half of my pictures are of little streets in Croatia. I find them so charming and just love spending a lazy afternoon exploring them.

Four books read over my summer holiday

Many of those books where read with a view like this, perfect way to spend the day! If you are looking for some end of summer reading I highly recommend checking out Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn for a more suspenseful book, and The Vacationers by Emma Straub for the perfect beach read.

Too many delicious cocktails to count enjoyed in Croatia

That is what your suppose to do on vacation though right?!

First Reykjavik Gay Pride Parade

I have heard so much about this parade and was so happy to finally get to see it for myself. The atmosphere is just amazing and this float by Páll Óskar was by far my favorite.

One day full of amazing Icelandic landscapes
Gjainn_001Landmannalaugar
Gjáin and Landmannalaugar are two of the most beautiful places I have seen in Iceland. If you ever are in Iceland I highly recommend adding these two places to your to do list!

Multiple trips to the swimming pools

When the sun shines in Iceland you don’t spend anytime inside! My favorite way to spend a sunny day is at one of the local pools. In my opinion the best pool to spend a sunny day is Vesturbæjarlaug, luck me that this pool is also two blocks from my house.

Second soccer (or football) game gone to in Iceland

I am not the biggest soccer fan but it was a beautiful summer night, the sky was amazing!

117 days until I leave to visit home!

H and I bought our tickets to fly back to Oregon for Christmas this past week and I am beyond excited! It will be over a year since I have been home and I can’t wait to see my family and Azora!

An awesome month yet again, and after a rough few weeks adjusting back to work life has settled back into routine and time is just flying by. This weekend H and I are running in a half marathon together, it is culture day in Reykjavik with free concerts and activities all day and to end the weekend we are going to Justin Timberlake’s concert Sunday night. A fun weekend indeed! Have a great weekend everyone!

Time flies when your having fun and this couldn’t have been more true for my past month! We were away for a few weekend trips and each time we came home it felt more like “my home” which is a wonderful feeling. We have been doing a lot of remodeling in the apartment as well which is helping to make it feel even more like my home.

On to the fun stuff, here are my favorite moments from my 8th month in Iceland!

7th Month in Iceland by the Numbers

And just like that my 7 month in Iceland has flown by! This past month was spent settling into my job, enjoying several dates with new girlfriends, and soaking up every minute of sunshine that I can.

Lets get to the recap of my 7th month in Iceland!

3 Girls NightsEsjan
Okay so I don’t have any pictures from these nights but that just means it was a great time, right? (And you can never have enough pictures of the beautiful Iceland views.) I have found a great group of girls who I am really enjoying getting to know better. I miss having my close girlfriends around from back home but I think that these friendships will continue to grow, at least I hope they will.

1st hair appointment in IcelandGoodbye Roots
I was so nervous to get my hair done by someone I have never met and in another country! All my worries were not necessary though, my hairstylist was amazing and I learned that to become a hairstylist in Iceland you have to go to school for 4 years so you know they are good!

Two week trip to Croatia booked!
Croatia_Dubrovnik_via
Can we fast forward to July please?! H and I just booked our trip to Croatia where we will be spending two weeks enjoying Dubrovnik, Hvar, Korčula, and Split. Not to mention a quick day trip to London. I am so excited!

Dozens of Spring flowers blooming in Reykjavik
Spring Flowers
I almost forgot how beautiful Iceland is when everything comes back to life in the spring. Colorful flowers and sunshine just make me smile :)

Daily bike rides

Evening bike ride

I may complain about riding my bike but when the weather is nice out I look forward to my bike rides to work in the morning. And I sure don’t miss having to spend all that money on gas!

Multiple runs along the seaSunshine in Iceland
I am currently training for a half marathon in June and am loving my runs along the sea. Running those long training runs is no problem with views like this.

3 hours spent singing along to MeatloafMeatloaf ConcertThis spontaneous outing turned out to be one of my favorite memories from this month. The band did an amazing job and I had a blast signing along.

One amazing recipe discoveredCaliflower Pasta
I have seen the recipe for cauliflower alfredo sauce for a few months now and figured it was too good to be true. Well I am so glad I finally gave it a try, this sauce is amazing! I made a big batch and froze the leftovers so I can have cauliflower alfredo sauce whenever I want!

Dozens of laughs while watching Parks and Recreationgiphyvia
I know I am always talking about this show lately but seriously if you haven’t watched it yet what are you waiting for. I am already getting sad for when we have watched all the episodes, such a hilarious show!

Sixth Month in Iceland by the Numbers

Happy Monday Everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful Easter :)

Today’s post is celebrating a big milestone in my expat life. I have survived my first 6 months in Iceland! It is suppose to be easy coasting from here right? Sadly I am a very realistic person and know this isn’t true but the first 6 months have been said to be the most difficult so I am more than happy to put those behind me.

So much has happened during these 6 months and I have grown in many ways. I have put myself out there more times than I can count, dealt with many feelings of homesickness, and taken several risks that have both paid off and failed. I have started to learn a new language, experienced Icelandic traditions and can now navigate my way around the city with ease. While I know that there will be many more difficult things that come my way I am finally feeling like I am at home here in Iceland.

With that lets get to recapping my 6 month here in Iceland, it was a big one!

I can’t believe I have already been away from home for 6 months. I hope my 7th month brings a bit more sunshine but other than that life abroad is treating me well. Looking forward to feeling more and more settled into my surroundings with each passing day!
