Amazing blog! I’m actually coming to Iceland on 30th Dec for a week, how is the weather there at the moment? Keeping my fingers crossed that we’ll have some clear evenings to see the Northern Lights!

Thanks so much! As your already in Iceland now you know it is quite snowy! I just returned back to Iceland today so I as well am hoping for some clear evenings! Hope you get to see the Northern Lights!

I love your blog! My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Iceland but we can’t decide when to go. He really wants to see the Northern Lights but we also want to be able to drive around the country and see everything (especially hike)! How are the roads in the winter usually? When would you recommend coming? Thanks!

Thanks so much! The roads in the winter are okay unless there is a storm and then they would be closed. I would recommend coming in March or October time, the weather is a bit better then (still cold but usually less storms and snow) and there is still the chance to see the Northern Lights ;)

This is probably the best Iceland travel guides I’ve ever read! I will be in Iceland in 6 mos, and this will really help me plan my trip. :)

I spent a week in Iceland three years ago and plan to return for a circle trip around the island. I have a tiny RV that I have used to see much of the US and Alaska. I liked your information about renting RVs there, but have forgotten how the exchange works and can’t find out how much 106 would be in US currency. Can you help, please? I look forward to your blog and enjoy it so much for the memories it brings to mind. We stayed in the City Hostel in Reykjavik; great place.

Hi! Iceland is wonderful isn’t it! The exchange rate is 1 US Dollar equals 135.36 Icelandic Króna. So $106 USD would be around 14,500 ISK :)

      • Din

I didn’t word my question very well. The RV costs 106 Krona a day. How much would that be in US dollars?

        • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Sorry, not to sure what you mean. If is is 106 KR per day that would only be .78 cents. If it is 10,600 KR that would be 78 USD. I use the currency convertor here http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=USD&to=ISK

Hi Kaelene, I’ve been reading and enjoying your blog for a long time now and now my boyfriend and I have finally booked a trip to Iceland! We’re going the first week of December, so I would love to hear any tips you have for travelling in Iceland in the winter, and also anything Christmassy we could do! We’re definitely going to hire a 4×4 and get out into the country, and we’re excited to go snorkelling at Thingvellir and maybe dog sledding too! Can’t wait!

Hi Eve! Thanks so much glad you are enjoying reading along :) For some ideas of Christmassy things to do in Reykjavik check out this post unlockingkiki.com/reykjavik-christmas/

And for traveling around the country it really all has to do with the weather. Last winter the beginning of December was really mild with no snow. I recommend checking the road conditions and forecasts closer to your trip. :) Hope this helps!

My husband and I just booked a trip to Iceland next May and I have been having so much fun reading your blog! Any plans for a post on the Westfjords? We were planning on spending half of our trip in that region. Either way, I will continue to read your blog and anxiously await our trip!

Hi Amanda! Oh the Westfjords, I have heard nothing but amazing things about them. It is the next place on my list so I hope to make it soon! Thanks so much for the message and for reading:)
