Do you guys remember playing “would you rather” growing up? Or if your like me do you still get a kick out of playing it?
Well then today’s post is just for you!
When I saw Shane from Sea Salt Secrets post a would you rather travel version I knew I had to join in! Play along in the comments and tell me, what would you rather do?
Would you rather…
Travel or focus on your career at the age of 25 26?
Oh the dilemma.
This has been something I have struggled with ever since I graduated college. While many of my friends were heading into their first jobs I was planning my next trip abroad. Even though I chose travel over my career after graduation by the time I was 25 I had a great job, and bonus, that great job sometimes sends me on cool trips, like to Berlin.
Now, at 26, I am not choosing one or the other. A career that allows me to travel, that is my career goal.
Have a $10,000 budget for a holiday and fly first class for $5,000 and stay in mediocre accommodation, or spend $1,000 on economy and stay in luxury accommodation?
Give me that luxury accommodation!
Planes just put me to sleep, and and I have became a pro at getting comfortable in that small space so first class would be a waste of extra money.
I feel like I have done my time and stayed in my share of questionable hostels, and while they make for fun stories now I would much rather have a soft fluffy bed to come back to after a long day of exploring versus a squeaky twin bed and a shared bathroom down the hall.
This picture was taken after walking around Paris for an hour trying to find our accommodation with that massive backpack on. It took another hour to finally find it. Lets just say I never want to do that again, give me the airport shuttle to my nice hotel room!
Never take the train or never take an airplane again?
I love a good train ride, but I live on a tiny island in the Atlantic, trains do me no good here. I will admit, I get a bit nervous every time I am about to get on a flight, train rides are much more peaceful to me and I love getting to take in the scenery while we are traveling. But, I need to be able to see my family so I am sticking with airplanes.
Stay in a palm hut along the seashore for seven days or stay in a log cabin in the woods for one month?
While I love spending time out in the woods I am going to have to go with the palm hut on the beach. I need to soak up vitamin D any chance I get! And being a beach bum, it sounds pretty amazing right now as I am still wearing my winter clothes in June.
Be left behind in the bush on an African safari or be left behind in the water on a scuba trip?
Umm these both sound absolutely terrifying! But I am going to go with being left behind on an African safari. I feel that would give me a better chance of someone finding me crying behind a bush versus me floating around in the ocean.
Have an awesome job in a mediocre city or a mediocre job in an awesome city?
This is such a great question! And one that really made me think, and I still keep going back and forth on my answer. I am going to go with mediocre job in an awesome city, because to me life is about the adventures outside of the cubicle.
Perfect example, when I lived in Sydney I absolutely loved the city, my internship, well I was an intern so enough said about that. But having such a wonderful city to go out and explore, that made those days as an intern it worth it!
Be able to teleport to places you’ve already been or only be able to teleport to places you’ve never been before?
Be able to teleport to places I have never been before most definitely! Now I need to make this happen in real life, is there some scientist working on teleportation or what, I have a lot of places I need to get traveling to!
Be stuck on a seven-hour delay, or turn up at the airport and realize your flight is tomorrow?
I am the most impatient person, especially when it comes to things affecting my travel plans, I do not handle it well! Showing up to the airport to realize my flight is the next day, much more something I could handle, and has already happened.
Yup, my first time to Iceland I did the whole terrible goodbye crying thing, hugged H one last time and went to the check in counter only to learn my flight was the next day. This was a gift and a curse at the same time. I was so excited to have one more day with H, and so not looking forward to going through the whole goodbye thing again. I always triple check my flight dates now and hope for no delays.

Be able to play every musical instrument that you touch or speak every language that you hear?
As someone who struggles everyday with learning a new language I would most definitely take some of that speak every language you hear magic!
Imagine how amazing that would be!
I wonder how this would affect cultural barriers if everyone could easily learn each others languages? Would be an interesting world to live in!
Would you rather travel along the ocean floor or take a trip to outer space?
Even though I found scuba diving to be somewhat terrifying there is no part of me that has any interest in heading into outer space. At least if I get freaked out along the ocean floor I don’t have to wait for months to be on ground again. And I think once I got use to the feeling of being under water it would be a pretty awesome experience.

Travel back in time to meet your ancestors or forward to meet your descendants?
I am a bit of a history nerd so I would love to go back in time and meet my ancestors. And with ancestors from Norway I imagine I have some pretty awesome Vikings for ancestors that I need to meet.
Have in-flight WiFi but no legroom (like, zero inches) or in-flight legroom but no WiFi?
Well I have never had in-flight WiFi so this one is easy for me, give me all the leg room! I love using flying time to just totally unplug, my in-flight time is spent enjoy a few naps and some quality reading time.
Be able to eat anything and any quantity of food with no negative health effects or be refreshed and well rested after only three hours of sleep?
I have the worlds most sensitive stomach so I am going with being able to eat anything. There have been many times when traveling when I wanted to try something but just knew my stomach would not handle it well, so instead of ruining the day I skipped out on the local treat. If I could eat anything without worrying about the aftermath, man I would always have something to snack on!
Die happy in five years or die unhappy in sixty years?
The thought of dying in five years just does not sound appealing, but neither does the thought of being unhappy for the next sixty years. So I am going to go vague on this one and say I want to live how ever many years I have to the fullest, no regrets, and full of adventure!
And with those final words I am turning it over to you guys…
