9th Month in Iceland by the Numbers

This post was suppose to go up while I was in Croatia so it is a bit late. I am still recovering from my trip but will be back next week with lots of beautiful pictures of Croatia!

This past month has been filled with more rain than should be allowed in the middle of summer. I never would have thought I would be wearing my winter coat in July! But don’t feel to bad, I am currently enjoying the beautiful beaches of Croatia as this post is going up so I am finally getting my sunshine fix.

Without further ado lets get to my 9th month in Iceland!

13.1 Miles Ran
Midnight Sun Run

It has been on my bucket list to run a race abroad and I couldn’t have chosen a more beautiful place to do it at!

First World Cup experience

This video cracks me up and is basically how I feel when watching soccer, someone is all fake falling down!

Three delicious lunches at Gló
Lunch, Glo
This is my favorite place to grab lunch in Reykjavik, I love all the fresh ingredients they use and have never had a bad meal here.

Two trips to Stofan cafe
Blogging
Speaking of favorite places in Reykjavik, I just love this cafe. It has such a cozy atmosphere, like you are hanging out in someones living room, well outdated living room but still it is great.

First time sending someone flowers
Mom's Birthday Flowers
Ordering a flower deliver order online was a new experience to me, I am just glad they made it on time. A very happy birthday to my beautiful Mom!

Five trips to the libraryReykjavik Library
All of these trips where to try and find the third book in the Divergent series. On my fifth time I jumped up and down like a little kid when I saw the book sitting on the shelf. And imagine my disappointment when I was told I couldn’t check the book out because it was on hold.

Two minute walk from my house to see this sunset
Reykjavik Sunset
If it was not cloudy outside around 11 pm you could find me walking to the sea near my house to catch the beautiful sunsets. This night it looked like the clouds were bright red cotton balls, so beautiful!

Three am wake up call
Iceland Planes
It was a rough day of travel but my excitement for our trip got me through!

18 hours in London
London
This was my first time in London and it was an amazing day. A longer trip back is definitely needed!

Two days exploring Dubrovnik
Croatia, Red Keep
As major Game of Throne fans H and I were running around like excited kids. The old city of Dubrovnik was beautiful and we loved exploring the little streets!

One hour ferry ride to Korčula
Korcula, Croatia
Our second stop in Croatia, the beautiful island of Korčula.

Croatia was amazing and I can’t wait to share our trip with you all. This month may of had a rainy start but it sure has ended on a sunny note! And what better way to start my 10th month in abroad than on a beautiful beach in Croatia.

Sooo much envy for Croatia!! Sounds like month number 9 was excellent. Also, you just reminded me that I need to check out the Divergent series as well!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I recommend the Divergent series. I wasn’t crazy about the movie but I really loved the books!

  • http://prettythingandco.com/ Madaline

Croatia looks gorgeous. Was it really cold enough for sweaters?!?! Omg. My husband would die. I, however, think I’m ready for a fall sweater or two…

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

There was only one or two nights where I needed a light sweater but I was always in a dress or shorts. I wish I felt ready to a fall sweater, I usually feel that way when I am back home, craving the fall sweaters and pumpkin lattes!

Do you have a hard time finding books in English in Iceland? It´s so hard here in Madrid, you would think being a capital and all they would have more bookstores that sell english books. I´ve never thought to check the library though…maybe one of these days.
Btw, is Divergent any good? have you seen the movie? I heard it´s a similar style to the Hunger Games…

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I actually have been pretty lucky with finding books in English here. Since Icelanders read so many book they are always stocking the shelves with the most recently books in English. It is quite expensive to buy the books so I always try and find them at the library first if possible. I wasn’t crazy about the Divergent movie but I really have enjoyed the books. And it is really similar to the Hunger Games so if you enjoyed the Hunger Games I think you would like Divergent!

  • http://englishgirlcanadianman.blogspot.ca/ Holly Nelson

Wow…your library must be so advanced to have so tent as new as Divergent! Not ours!! Sounds like it has been a good month!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

We are pretty lucky we usually have the new books quite soon, you may have to wait a bit for them but it is much better than buying them new.

So excited to see your croatia pics. I had never sent flowers by delivery before I moved abroad either! And the first time was to my mom too. Gotta love our mommas.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Oooh that restaurant you visited looks amazing- as well as those cafes. Reykjavik knows how to do food and drink! How is the English book selection at the local library? Can’t wait to hear about your Croatian adventures :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

They are some of my favorite places in Reykjavik ;) So far I have been able to find most of the books I have wanted from the library. The newest releases aren’t always available, you can usually find them at the bookstore though if you wanted to pay the high costs. Lucky for me my bookclub usually has a lot of books going around between us so that helps as well!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

A longer trip in London really was needed. It felt more like a rush around the city and see as much as possible but not really get to enjoy the city.

  • http://withlove-rachel.com Rachel Murphree

Congrats on the half marathon! I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around 11 pm sunsets. Also, I am super jealous of the trip to Croatia!

  • http://bluehairinbelgium.blogspot.be/ Kerri Heritage

    Yummy lunch and wonderful sunsets.
I was wondering, is it difficult to find books wrote in English at the library? Just that, here in Belgium, it’s not often that I find an English section in the bookstore or such (I haven’t checked the library).

This is me assuming that you will be reading an English book… apologise if you are actually fluent in Icelandic and were reading the book in that language… :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I wish I was able to read books in Icelandic, although I can bust through a few children’s books:) We have quite a few books in English actually. I am sure that it has to do a lot with that not many books are translated to Icelandic so we have the English version instead, lucky me!

  • http://voyageofthemeemee.com/ Amanda MeeMee

Awwww… so cute that you sent your mom flowers!!!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

…It all looks WONDERFUL-how did you enjoy Londontown???…And you didn’t happen to see the Iron Throne, did you???…

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I didn’t see the Iron Throne, we didn’t do the Game of Thrones tour they have so I am not sure where they have it. London was a lot of fun but I think I need a proper trip back there next time.
