It was one rainy weekend here in Iceland! And I am not talking about a nice little drizzle. I was completely drenched from the rain after my run this morning (16 miles in the rain is no fun, marathon training you are rough!) the skin on my feet was starting to prune!
To much information??
Okay, maybe a bit of an overshare, but the point of the story is the stormy Icelandic fall is definitely here, and I really miss summer, specifically those dreamy Oregon summers!
There really is no better place to be than Oregon in the summertime.
Since it is Labor Day weekend (Happy Labor Day!) I figured this was the perfect time to share the Viking and I’s camping trip we did when we were in Oregon this summer. We only had one night, but we made sure to pack a ton into this trip. I loved getting to show H around Oregon and all the natural beauty my home has, and I know he enjoyed it too even if he did complain a bit about the whole camping in the dirt.
I don’t know about all you other campers out there but in Oregon tent camping is usually done in dirt, and surrounded by trees. I didn’t think twice about this until we arrived and H asked where the grass was. He thought it was completely crazy that we would be setting up camp in the dirt, to me this was totally normal. In Iceland camping is always done in the grass, so we now have an argument over which option is better.
Question for all my fellow campers out there. Do you normally camp in grass or on dirt?
Either way, our camping area was beautiful and right by the river!
One thing H and I both did agree on, Oregon is beauty!
If you have never been to Oregon I highly recommend a visit, especially if you love beautiful nature. I lived in Oregon for 24 years and it took me moving away from Oregon to fully appreciate its beauty. Funny how that happens? Now, every time I get to visit Oregon I try and make the most of my trip and explore all the places I have yet to see. Which was exactly the plan on H and I’s camping trip.
We hiked back to waterfalls, boated around a lake famous for its crystal clear water, and I finally got to visit Oregon’s blue pool. I think the Viking fell more in love with Oregon after this adventure (my plan was successful) and he forgave me for making him camp in the dirt after he saw all of these beautiful places.
In case you couldn’t guess from the pictures, H was in charge of the boat rowing duties. I mean I tried…my mom was disappointed in my skills, she is one skilled boat woman (is that a thing, I dunno what to call it but I do know she kicks ass when it comes to kayaking/rowing a boat/anything to do on the river!) I would put her in charge of my boat any day!
Instead of helping H row the boat I designated myself as the boat comedian and entertained H with my hilarious jokes. I then deemed myself best first mate, I don’t think H agrees. Lucky for him our boat adventure was short and soon we were off on another hike.
I am always on a mission to find waterfalls, no matter what country I am in!
And then, finally I got to see Oregon’s blue pool!
Between Iceland and Oregon I get to call two very beautiful places home!
Camping is one of my favorite summertime activities and I am so glad I got to make a camping trip while in Oregon this year! I fell in love with my home-state all over again on this trip.
I hope you all had a summertime adventure this year that made you fall in love with your home as well. Nothing like getting out with nature to truly appreciate where you live!
Question of the Day?
Are you a fan of camping? What is your favorite summertime activity?
