Daily Diaries #2

Welcome back to another Daily Diaries post. This week was a short work week for us here in Iceland so it was a quiet week filled with lots of fun!

Saturday & Sunday:
My weekend started off with a shopping trip downtown where I finally found the perfect red beanie. I have been searching for a red beanie all winter so this made my day. After this great success (its the little things) I met a friend for lunch at a vegan restaurant in Reykjavik. I have heard great things about this place and have been looking forward to try it myself. Dragging H to a vegan raw foods restaurant isn’t so easy though so I was thrilled when my friend asked me to join her. My meal of raw lasagne did not disappoint and I am already planning my next trip back. Just look at all those beautiful veggies.

As I was walking home after lunch I ran into crowds of different movie characters.

I was so confused at first as to what was going on with all these costumes, they were everywhere! Apparently when kids graduate high school here they dress up in these costumes and spend the day walking around downtown drinking beer and doing crazy things. Interesting.

Monday: Since it was a short week before the Easter break things at work were quite slow. A good part of my afternoon was spent browsing travel sites for vacation ideas for this summer. I am pretty sure Croatia is our choice so any tips from those who have visited there are welcomed!

Tuesday: I woke up an hour before my alarm feeling certain that I had slept through my alarms and was late. I can thank the early sunrise for this. We now have sunlight from about 6am to almost 10 pm, the midnight summer sun is almost here! And when the sun is shining on your way to work you must take a selfie. #shamelessselfie

Wednesday: After work H and I braved the stores to get some supplies for our trip. Most stores are closed during Easter break so everyone in Reykjavik was stocking up. Not kidding we stood in line waiting to check out for over 30 minutes! It felt like I was back at home on Black Friday, minus the good deals. I spent the rest of our night baking snacks for our trip.

These cookies are amazing, I will be sure to share my recipe soon!

Thursday: H and I headed off early in the morning for our two day road trip in the south coast of Iceland. We spent all day driving along the coast taking in some breathtaking landscapes. We did get caught in a bit of a snow storm but that all just added to our adventure. We had such a fun first day, I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time!

Friday: This morning we are headed off to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and I am so excited! So many things have been crossed off my bucket list on this trip and I can’t wait to share our pictures with you all.

Love your new red beanie! And Icelandic teenagers seem better than the average teenager if they all dress up in cartoon character costumes for graduation. Can’t wait to hear about the South of Iceland… have a great Easter!

The stocking up is pretty crazy huh! The same thing happens in Sweden and it seems the grocery stores turn into shopping cart warfields.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It was crazy! The grocery store was insane, I think all of Iceland was there.

I wish I had graduated high school there instead of here! hahahahaah That is AWESOME!

That food looks so good, loath as I am to give props to the raw foodies.

Also, I totally get the over sleeping fear. Wake get up to broad daylight at 6 in the morning is always disconcerting - I never got used to it!

I can already tell the sunlight is going to be a problem with my sleeping scheudle!

That high school graduation tradition sounds like fun! It’s so cool that you’re living in Iceland! It’s high on my list of places to visit. It might not be my next trip out of the country, but it will hopefully be one of my next trips.

Iceland is such an amazing place to live, I hope you get to visit one day!

I have such a hard time getting my hubby to eat at vegan places too? The food looks great, I’m getting more into vegan ism lately,

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

The food was amazing. I wish we had more fresh produce here!

Before I get started - your new author picture is GORGEOUS! I love it.
We have a similar sunlight pattern to what you guys have, it’s really weird isn’t it? I remember the clocks changing last year and feeling like it was later than it was, now I have the opposite and keep thinking it’s earlier than it is! BUT, I do love a European summer :).

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Thanks so much Kate:) It is so weird I have a hard time adjusting to the sunlight. Just tonight it felt so early and before I knew it it was already 10 pm! Makes it hard to got o bed early thats for sure!

those costumes! hilarious. How crazy you get so much sun, I can’t decide if I would love it or hate it.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I can’t decide if I love it or hate it either. The sun is already waking me up extra early and while the extra energy is nice it feels strange going to be when the sun is still out!
