See that face up there.
That is the face of one happy girl after a delicious meal at Hotel Rangá.
In case you guys couldn’t tell from my previous posts about Hotel Rangá, the Viking and I absolutely loved our weekend getaway there! The key to my heart is cozy rooms with a view, the key to my Viking’s heart is with food. Hotel Rangá won both of our hearts last weekend!
When H and I were planning our trip to Hotel Rangá the only concern he had was of course where were we going to eat. As Hotel Rangá is located out in the countryside restaurants and shops are not surrounding you so we had to figure out this food situation before I could fully get my Viking on board with our weekend getaway. All it took was one quick look at Hotel Rangás website to show H the restaurant menu and he was on board with the adventure.
Now my Viking, he is pretty easy to please when it comes to food. Just put some meat and potatoes in front of him and he is a happy guy. Me, not so much. I wouldn’t say I am picky, just more like a food snob. But after reading all the raving reviews about the food at Hotel Rangá I couldn’t wait to try it for myself!
H and I kicked off our dining experience at Hotel Rangá by grabbing a delicious drink at the hotel bar, which I must say had the cutest decor!
These bar strolls were my favorite, new life goal is to have these in my house!
With our drinks in hand H and I were taken to our table overlooking the East-Rangá River. H and I had just enjoyed the sunset overlooking the river but the twilight glow was just as pretty. Any meal with a view is a winner in my book, especially when that meal is kicked off with fresh bread and dipping oils.
I was way too busy stuffing my face to smile for a picture, obviously:) I couldn’t get enough of that fresh bread and of course had to try every combination possible with the different oils and spices
H and I were so busy enjoying our drinks and bread that we had yet to look at the menu, so when the waiter came over to take our order we were totally unprepared. Our waiter though, he is the kind of guy I want taking my order for every meal, he was so helpful!
I love when you have a waiter that is full of recommendations, H and I gave our waiter full reign over deciding our entrees for us. After our waiter left us I looked down at the menu I had attempted to look at, this was as far as I got, the wine menu. I mean important things first right?! Thank goodness for excellent waiters willing to help us out!
It seemed to be no more than a few minutes after our waiter headed off to put in our surprise orders that he was back with a special appetizer from the chef. Don’t you just love when restaurants do that? It doesn’t even matter to me that everyone is getting this extra appetizer it always makes me feel so special.
H and I had just finished our appetizer of beef in an orange sauce (that orange sauce was delicious!) when our trusty waiter was back again with more food. This time it was time for the first dish of our three course meal, the seafood soup, which was full of tasty lobster, my favorite!
Just look at that lobster piece! It was so good, I am still dreaming about this soup.
One thing to note about Hotel Rangá restaurant, the restaurant’s has a “Farmer Market” concept. Eating fresh local goods is really important to me and I appreciate when a restaurant makes this a priority. And you always know your food will be delicious when it is local and fresh, like that lobster in the soup freshly caught from the nearby fishing town, oh man was it good!
Our main entree soon arrived and it kept true to the restaurants “Farmer Market” concept. For me, it was the catch of the day arctic char and for H it was fresh Icelandic lamb. (I am pretty sure this was what he was hoping for!)
Both of our plates had a lovely presentation and delicious fresh produce to add to our proteins. I wish I was a food photographer because really the presentation of our dishes was gorgeous, when you look at the pictures just imagine something 100 times prettier.
As soon as his meal was in front of him H was so not interested in taking a break for a picture. The signs of a delicious meal.
As we were finishing up our entree’s we heard the clinking of glasses coming from the front of the restaurant.
“The Northern Lights are out if anyone wants to step outside to view them.”
As soon as the words were out all the dinners cleared out to catch the show. H and I had lingered behind for a few minutes and I am so glad we did. Instead of joining the crowd in front of the hotel the waiters opened up the back door of the restaurant and told us we could pop outside to see the Northern Lights.
How amazing is that! Just a quick dinner break to step outside of the restaurant to take in the Northern Lights.
The Northern Lights are such beauties! These pictures were all taken just right outside the restaurant. This is my kind of dinner and a show!
After enjoying the Northern Lights for a few minutes H and I headed back inside for our final, and my favorite, course of the night. Dessert!
Thanks to our waiters recommendation we enjoyed one of the best desserts I have had, a wine soaked pear with white mouse and berries. This dessert was the perfect mix of sweet, but not to sweet, and I was really regretted not getting my own.
Nearly two hours later with fully bellies and smiles on our face H and I both agreed that our meal at Hotel Rangá more than impressed us.Those meals where you trust your waiter, they are always the best in my opinion!
I think H and I thanked our waiter about a hundred times before we left the restaurant, our great service took our meal from just dinner to a dining experience, a delicious experience at that.
If you are heading to the south of Iceland, or are wise and have decided to stay at Hotel Rangá, I highly recommend enjoying a meal at the gourmet restaurant. It will be a dining experience that won’t disappoint!
Question of the Day?
Would you let a waiter decided your meal for you? What is your favorite kind of dining experience?
*I received a complimentary meal Hotel Rangá in exchange for a review, as always all opinions are my own. This meal truly was a delicious experience, a restaurant I highly recommend to all visiting Iceland!
