How do you feel like you are coming along in Icelandic? x

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It is coming right along, some days I think I understand, others I am completely confused! I will have to work up to courage to do a vlog with me speaking some Icelandic one of these days!

      • http://www.rhymeandribbons.com/ Amanda

        Yes! That’s a great idea! x

        • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Maybe for the 6 month recap this will need to happen:)

4 mornings a week learning Icelandic? That’s amazing dedication right there! As for the book club a fellow blogger in Bristol is trying to put on together and I might join! I think that’d be fun!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Yes it has felt like I am taking college classes again! But I have learned so much and on the days when I can actually understand things it makes it worth it. Do it! I am loving my book club it has been a great way to meet some ladies from all over the world as well.

I can’t believe it has been 4 months. I feel like I was reading your 3 month post just the other day. Time flies. Glad you feel like you are settling in more. I have never been a part of a book club, but my flat mate and I have been talking about joining one that happens at the library across the road from us!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I know right time is flying by! I never have joined a book club either but I am so glad I did. It has been one of the first things i have joined where I met some ladies that I was like okay ya were going to be good friends:)

Wow 4 months congrats! I’m jealous of your archery skills… and that cup of coffee looks much more delicious than the cup of Caribou Coffee I’m currently drinking :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Haha Caribou Coffee sounds better than the Folgers knock off I was drinking my first few months here. Thanks so much, these 4 months have flown by!

I second the vlog of icelandic, I’m not sure I’ve ever heard it spoken! They often say if you can get past the 6 month mark, you’re good to go, so you’re almost there!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I think maybe for my 6 month mark a vlog will have to happen;) Oh good, that gives me some hope, two more months and I am there!

  • Michelle

I’ve never been to iceland before but that looks really cool! especially the scenery! so pretty!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

The scenery is so pretty here, it is so full of natural beauty I hope you get to visit one day!

  • http://www.lifesajournee.com/ Elicia Shepard

Oh wow! The place you are taking lessons looks amazing. I have been apart of a book club here in Korea but had to quit since we were traveling every weekend!! Lastly, your pup! Why can’t it come live with you in Iceland!? :(

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I love that old school house, the inside has these huge wooden beams and original woodwork, so pretty. I am so glad I joined a bookclub it has bene a great way to meet people. I know I wish she could, I decided to keep her at her home she has always known and not move her from having a field to run in to a small apartment that she would be coped up in.

you’ve accomplished so much in just 4 months. and your pup is such a cutie!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Thanks so much! It helps writing these monthly reviews so during the times when I feel like I am getting no where I can look back and see what I have done so far.

Looks like you just jumped right in!! Good for you :) I wish i could find a book club here in my town!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Jumping in head first thats for sure! I am so glad I joined a book club, I hope you find one as well!

  • http://agirlandhertravels.com/ Polly

I want to learn Icelandic, especially if it’s taught in that adorable schoolhouse!

To learn Russian, you’re required to study in a drafty, soviet-era concrete block of a building :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

My first Icelandic classes I took a few years ago were taught in something similar, in the winter, with little heat! My desire to learn Icelandic was not very strong at that time.

I love these posts by the numbers. And this post just reminded me that I got a recurve longbow for Christmas and really need to get out and practice with it!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Oh awesome that sounds like a great Christmas present, you will have to do some pictures of your practice session so we can all see!

I’m so glad you’re feeling more at home! :) I’m in a bookclub and it’s one of my favorite things. We’re reading the Night Circus now, and I would HIGHLY recommend it!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Thanks so much! I am loving my book club as well, I have met some great ladies in it. Ohh I will have to recommend this book for our next read thanks for sharing!

When I move to a new country, it usually takes me 3 months to realize that this is my home now and 3 more months to feel like I’ve been living in this country for the whole of my life! It’s great that you’re having fun in Iceland! Do you find it hard to pronounce words in Icelandic? And what is the highest level of the exam?

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

So true, the first 3 months are kinda of a confusing haze and then it starts to feel more like home. I find it so difficult to pronounce Icelandic and the grammar is killer, even Icelanders get it wrong. This school goes up to 6 levels so I have a ways to go!

  • BlushandBarbells

I belong to a couple of internet book clubs. I’d love to join a real-life book club but the ones I see on meetup.com are all full!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I never really thought about joining a book club until recently and I am so glad I did. So fun meeting others who love to read as much as I do!

  • http://voyageofthemeemee.com/ Amanda MeeMee

Congrats on passing level 2!!!! Go on with your bad self!!!!
Ever never joined a book club… they sound fun but I like going at my own pace.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

A celebration was definitely in order after passing those exams! Lucky for me my book club is a group of 5 of us and were all around the same age so its a bit more laid back, like we meet in a bar once a month for book club;)

  • http://ifsandsandbutts.com/ Alex

Damn girl, you are breezing through Icelandic, I am so impressed. Wish I ever had that drive with Germany.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

My drive for Icelandic is getting smaller the more complicated it is getting!

  • http://www.adventuresofalondonkiwi.blogspot.com/ adventuresofalondonkiwi

    What a wonderful week!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It has been a busy fun month for sure!

  • http://theglobetrotterdiaries.com/ Ashley S

How did you find your book club? Im trying to get ideas of where to meet new people when I move!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I found the girls on a FB group for foreigner living in Iceland. Maybe your new area will have a group for those living abroad that you could meet up with!
