The Glacier Lagoon, Iceland

When H and I set off on our Easter road trip our main destination was Jökulsárlón, aka the Glacier Lagoon.

Glacier Lagoon
If you have a few days to spend in Iceland I highly recommend a road trip along the south of Iceland over to the Jökulsárlón. The views along the way are just amazing and you won’t be disappointed when you finally do arrive at the Jökulsárlón it is absolutely beautiful.

Glacier LagoonGlacier LagoonGlacier LagoonDuring the summer months boat tours are offered at Jökulsárlón but unfortunately they were not operating while we where there. I would have loved to ride around the lagoon and get up close to the big icebergs.

Glacier Lagoon
Playing with the ice like your a little kid is highly encouraged.
Glacier LagoonGlacier Lagoon
Glacier LagoonYou have to have a taste of the freshest ice around right?

H and I got a nice surprise when we were walking around the shore and saw seals swimming around the icebergs.

Glacier LagoonAt first H and I thought we must have seen a big fish jumping in the water but nope it was dozens of seals swimming around. We had no idea that there was otters in Jökulsárlón but it was a fun surprise!

There are lots of pathways that you can walk along the lagoon but H and I kept our time here a bit short because it was extremely windy!
Glacier Lagoon
Glacier LagoonThe wind was no joke! As you can see in the above pictures I first tried taking photos without my hat on but that left me looking like cousin It being strangled by my scarf. Things didn’t get any better when I put my hat on since the wind had blown my hat almost over my eyes during the 30 seconds we were waiting to have our photo taken. On the positive side at least the sun was shinning!

I can now cross visiting Jökulsárlón off my Icelandic bucket list. An incredibly beautiful area, not every day you visit a giant glacier lagoon filled with icebergs!

Welcome to Travel Tuesday!

I am so happy to be co-hosting Travel Tuesday with Bonnie, Sammy and Van for the next 3 months. Traveling is one of my passions and I can’t wait to read everyone’s travel stories and share mine with you all each week.

Each week Bonnie, Sammy, Van and I will select one post each from all the linked up posts the week before that we enjoyed especially. Please make sure to head over to their blogs to see who they picked!
traveltuesdayspotlight_gutenblogyall
My first Travel Tuesday spotlight is on the lovely Margo from Gutenblog Y’all. A fellow American living in Germany with her fiance (very soon to be husband!) and adorable pup Stuart Margo knows how to capture the beauty of places she visits in her pictures. Her post last week about Paris in 10 Steps captures the beauty of the city so well and I am already dreaming of my next trip to Paris so I can eat some pistachio macaroons!
