19 months in Iceland, that can’t be right!
I seriously had to triple check that this really was my 19th month in Iceland, I mean wow time has gone by so quickly! I remember when I was telling myself just survive the first 6 months and then it will get easier, that felt like not that long ago. Before I know it my two year expativersary will be here!
So, month number 19. This month has been all about exploring my own backyard, and what a beautiful one it is! With every adventure we go on the more I fall in love with Iceland. I can only imagine the beauty that I am about to discover on our road trip this coming weekend!
Lets take a look back at some of my favorite moments from month 19 and swoon over the beautiful places in Iceland I have seen lately!
First day of summer in Iceland celebrated

This day, it was amazing. Beautiful views, perfect weather and an afternoon spent in hot springs, the perfect way to kick off summer in Iceland! Reykjadalaur is one of my favorite hikes to do in Iceland, I am hoping to make a few more trips back to this beautiful place this summer!
Six sushi rolls enjoyed
A big thank you to our waitress who messed up our order so we ended up with double the sushi rolls we ordered. No need to apologize miss waitress, put those tasty rolls into a box and hello leftovers! Sushi is surprisingly really expensive here in Iceland (at least I am surprised with all the fresh seafood here) so it is a rare treat to get it. If only the waitress knew her mistake was a highlight of my month!
Three wrong turns taken before we found this blue beauty
Brúarfoss has been on my radar for a few months now thanks to Pinterest and I will admit I was skeptical that the images I had seen of it were over photoshopped and the water wouldn’t be as blue as I dreamed it would be. Boy was I wrong, Brúarfoss is a natural beauty, no photoshopping needed!
Multiple solo driving adventures
Watch out drivers of Iceland I am on the loose! Although I think I am a much safer driver than most of the others on the road here, just saying. For the most part I am quite comfortable driving around on my own now, and bonus have yet to get lost, go me! Driving on my own again sounds like such a simple thing but the amount of freedom and independence it brings me is just amazing. Just one less thing I have to depend on H for and I love it!
One hour spent floating around the Secret Lagoon
Ahh, to be back in that beautiful lagoon floating around in the warm water. Our visit to the Secret Lagoon has been in the works for 6 months, we have had multiple times planned to visit but something has always came up. I am so glad this time we succeeded in our trip, the Secret Lagoon is a real gem!
Ninth Girl Gone International monthly meet-up hosted
I can’t believe I have been the community manager of the GGI branch in Iceland for nine months already! Co-hosting the GGI events with my friend has been such an amazing experience. We have met so many wonderful ladies from all over the world, I am loving being apart of it! This months meet-up had us wandering around the harbor area in Reykjavik, and on a beautiful sunny afternoon it was one of my favorite events yet!
Third geothermal area visited

I am becoming hooked on finding these geothermal areas, they are so beautiful! And lucky for me Iceland is in no short supply of them. Gunnuhver geothermal area had the craziest steam I have ever seen and the colors on the ground are amazing. Geothermal areas, they are a must visit when in Iceland.
Four hours spent chatting away with wonderful friends over delicious food
A night with good friends, great conversation and delicious food, it does wonders for the soul! I feel so lucky to have met some wonderful ladies here, life abroad can get difficult but having others who totally get you and are there to support you, it really helps.
Twenty-Three books read
Okay so this was not done just in this month but I finally wrote a recap on the books I have been reading this month so I am putting this in here. I am almost at the halfway point of my goal of 50 books! Check out this post here for a recap on some of the books I have been reading. I just started 1984 and so far I can already tell it is going to be a winner! Have you read any good books lately?
One afternoon exploring the Reykjanes Peninsula
H’s mom is always telling us how much there is to explore in the Reykjanes peninsula and I am so glad we listened to her and headed that way! I had no idea how many beautiful places there was in the Reykjanes peninsula, we have only visited a few of the gems in the area so many more trips back are necessary. Lucky for us it is a short drive from Reykjavik!
Month 19, I can’t complain, it was full of beautiful adventures and I have a whole new appreciation for Iceland. There are so many wonderful things happening these next couple weeks, my birthday, H’s birthday, a music festival and a road trip, bring on the fun. Before I know it is off to Oregon I go. Until then stay tuned for more Icelandic adventures!
