15 Reasons Why I Love Winter

After one stormy weekend I am not going to lie I am more than over this winter weather and ready to bring on summer. Add in the fact that it is a stormy Monday morning here in Iceland and my attitude towards winter has not improved.

Lucky for me I live with one of those super annoying optimistic people who likes to remind me of all the positive things in life. So today I am going to try and pretend I have half the optimistic outlook as H does about our weather and am going to look deep to find some positive things about winter.

If this list doesn’t leave you feeling ready to face the cold just remember January is finally over and were one month closer to spring!

Good list! I love a crisp, cold day, when the sun is shining and the sky is blue and going for a long walk.

Agree, so beautiful out when all is still and the air feels fresh and crisp!

I really needed to read this today. I am not handling our mild London winter very well. No shaving of legs is pretty damn good though!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I am glad it helped a bit with the deary winter days! I know I was in need of it, but really the no shaving my legs is pretty great in the winter:)

  • http://confuzzledom.wordpress.com/ bevchen

I think every female can relate yo your first one. Not shaving = extra time in bed. Yay winter!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Seriously winter is a time to eat and sleep, at least in my life.

      • http://confuzzledom.wordpress.com/ bevchen

Mmm, if only I could persuade my boss to let me sleep all winter ;-)

  • http://www.rhymeandribbons.com/ Amanda

I love that I can use “winter” as the excuse to be lazy in most aspects of my life… going outside….getting dressed, etc x

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Ha that has been my excuse lately as well, hard to find the extra energy or motivation when the weather is just so cold!

thanks for giving winter a little bit of love - I’ve always enjoyed winter - February is my bday month. I think snow is beautiful and there’s something romantic about a blazing fire, oversized sweaters and a cup of tea/coffee etc. love it.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I agree, I love a cozy night in by the fire and seeing all the pretty snow outside. Happy birthday month!

  • http://www.notentirelyperfect.com/ Stephanie

I love winter, it’s my favorite. You’re right, it’s probably all the sleep and tv watching I get to do!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Thats one of the best parts of winter though! Since the sun didn’t rise until almost 11 in December I had no interest in being out of bed before then either, a great time for sleep and tv watching.

ha this is a great way to look on the bright side. I do enjoy getting to be lazy indoors in comfy clothes and eating lots of carbs, kinda guilt free :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Ha thanks I am trying to look on the bright side and not focus on the fact that I am freezing! I do love all the comfy clothes though, you can never have enough leggings and fuzzy socks:)

  • http://meetatthebarre.blogspot.com/ Amanda Elizabeth

I totally agree about # 1….I said to Mark the other night “it’s a big night for you I actually shaved my legs” and then he looked at me like a lunatic…..mac and cheese is a staple when it’s cold out for sure :-)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Haha I so agree with you that is totally me. Shaving my legs is a rare occurrence during the winter! Yum homemade mac and cheese is one of my favorite comfort foods1

  • BlushandBarbells

I can’t get over how extreme the weather has been this year. I say you just sit on the sofa and catch up on TV shows until it warms up for you.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I agree, you get out and enjoy the sun for all of us freezing and we will keep you updated on all the tv shows:)

I did two Moscow winters and know how tough a long winter can feel. Grey sky makes for a grey mood at times. I love this look on the brighter side though - fresh white snow is gorgeous!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Those long dark winter days are tough and not easy to keep a positive mood in thats for sure! I am trying to be optimist though and find the beauty in the cold dark days!

  • http://www.snowflakesincalifornia.blogspot.com/ Nathalie

    I love winter!!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I love winter when I am all warm and cozy with pretty snow outside;)

  • http://heleneinbetween.com/ Helene

haha! i love this perspective! carbs, no leg shaving, no bugs and fireside! agreed!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Haha I am trying to find some positive things, or just an excuse for all the carbs I have been eating and the fact that my legs are not getting shaved tell the sun comes back:)

  • Krista

Are you going somewhere else for spring/summer? It’s never really “summer” in Iceland : / We were there 2 1/2 years and the warmest it got was 53 degrees….once!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Oh wow sounds like you had some bad summers here! I have been living here off and on for the past three years and I have been really lucky with some beautiful summer days, I was quite surprised actually two summers ago at how tan I got here! I know last summer was really terrible in Iceland so I am hoping this summer will be much warmer!

      • Krista

When it hit 53, all non essential personnel were let out for the day and had “sunshine liberty” for the rest of the day! HaHa!! The long days are nice but I wouldn’t call it summer ; )

        • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Oh wow what years were you here in Iceland? I wish we still got let out of work on those days, sounds like I have been luck with the weather here then, I have had some 65 degree and summer days. I think as long as the wind isn’t blowing to much it feels nice and warm, I just love the long bright days I can’t wait for them after this long winter! I know I won’t miss the long dark winter days!

  • brooke lyn

but for reals. not shaving is the best thing about winter. hands down

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

      Seriously no shaving is amazing!

  • http://voyageofthemeemee.blogspot.com/ Amanda MeeMee

I guess I can get on board with these reasons… you managed to come up with some even I could agree with - and I haaaaate winter! haha

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Haha yes success! I am trying to convince myself as well that winter doesn’t completely suck!

Living in California right now, honestly it is not too different here in the winter just a bit more chilly some days. But I think not having to shave as often and no bugs are definitely great. Also I love the stillness outside after a snow, and the crackling of the snow under you feet.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Ohhh I love the sound of snow under my feet! California sunshine sounds great to me right now!

  • http://montgomeryfest.com/ Annie Montgomery

Ha! I love them all. The following is a true story.. I had a bug fly into our kitchen the other day and I screamed at it “No! This is winter. At least give me that!’ And then I killed him. The end.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Hahah I would have done the same thing! Its winter, bugs aren’t allowed, completely agree!

  • http://www.chicadeedee.com/ Dannielle @ Chic-a-DeeDee

I love all of these too, I def stocked up on cozy sweaters and slipper socks for this winter. Best decision ever. I also need new leggings because I’ve worn through my have two pair.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Same here I have already worn through my leggings, because I basically live in them! Fuzzy socks are the best and fleeced lined leggings are a life saver in the winter!

Your personality really comes out in the way you write! I laughed at a heap of those reasons to love winter! As an Australian, I have never experienced a winter as bitterly cold than this past one we spent in Canada! But one of the reasons we came to Canada in the winter was to snowboard! So I’d definitely add that as something I love about winter :)
