One For The Bucket List

Happy Monday!

After sharing some of my blogging flaws last week I started my weekend with a big to-do list determined to pre-write my post for the week. So how did that work out for me??? Well, it is Monday morning and I am just writing up today’s post, but you know, the thought was there so that counts for something right??

Instead of writing up blog posts and tackling my to-do list my snowy weekend was spent at graduation parties for a few friends who just finished university this winter, hibernating inside while eating far too many snacks, and spending as much time as possible curled up with my favorite blanket and my current book (which I just finished reading so I need some recommendations).

And for the highlight of my weekend and the exciting announcement of the day, I finally captured the Northern Lights on camera!

Northern Lights, IcelandFriday was one of those beautiful winter days, freezing, but sunny and clear, the perfect combination for the Northern Lights to appear. All day I kept hearing how strong the Northern Lights were predicted to be but as I have yet to see them once this year I was not feeling to hopeful that this time would be any different. They tend to make their appearance well past my bed time. But as we arrived home from the gym (I know, wild Friday night for us) we were greeted with the northern lights dancing above our flat.

We quickly rushed back to the car and drove the short distance out to the lighthouse in Grotta, the best place to catch the Northern Lights in Reykjavik. H and I have tried several times to capture the Northern Lights on camera without success so as we drove out to Grotta with my new camera are hopes weren’t very high that we would have any luck photographing the Northern Lights.

When I was taking the pictures my camera screen just showed black sky, but I kept snapping away before I checked. I am pretty sure both H and I said something along the lines of, “HOLY S**T!” when I played back the pictures and saw that my little camera had succeeding in capturing the Northern Lights.

It only took me a year but I can finally cross photographing the Northern Lights off of my Icelandic bucket list!

Watching the Northern Lights dance above my head made me just smile and think, “I can’t believe I live here!” It is moments like these that make me remember why I chose this crazy life abroad.

Iceland you may be colder than I like but you have left me speechless more times than I can count this past year! What an unforgettable experience, I think I need to become a Northern Light guide, it sounds like the greatest job ever!

And before I head off to work a big thank you to all who took the time to take my survey, I appreciate all your feedback so much and will be sharing the survey results later this week.

Question of the Day?
Have you ever seen the Northern Lights? What is one thing on your bucket list?
