H and I took advantage of our 5 day Easter break to do some traveling around Iceland. Early Thursday morning we headed out for a road trip along the South coast of Iceland with our fingers crossed that the predicted bad weather wouldn’t interfere with our plans.

We planned to break our trip into two days so we would have plenty of time to hike around and explore each place. Our first stop of the day was a beautiful waterfall called Seljalandsfoss. Fun fact this waterfall was the waypoint during the first leg of The Amazing Race 6.

It is still quite chilly and frozen here in Iceland as you can see but at least we weren’t getting snowed on, yet. I have visited this waterfall once before in the summer when there was crowds everywhere so it was great to have the place mostly to ourselves this time. This just meant though that I had to wait for H to take a picture of every single thing!

And of course I took photos of him taking photos because that was going to make things move along faster:) I won’t complain to much (now that I am warm and inside that is) he got us some great photos.
Trying to use the nice weather (aka not raining/snowing/hailing) we headed back into the car for our next stop. The Icelandic landscape is so beautiful so there was several photo stops along the way.

With the sky growing darker by the minute we arrived at our next stop, the black sand beaches of Reynisdrangar.

The three rock formations you see in the ocean are said to have been created by two trolls when they dragged a three-masted ship to land. These rocks are a very famous stop for photographers and whenever you look up Iceland you most likely will see pictures of Reynisdrangar.

Visiting Reynisdrangar has been on my Icelandic bucket list and it was just as beautiful as I thought it would be!
Before heading off on our journey it was time for a lunch break. Just a tip restaurants and shops are far and few when traveling in the Icelandic countryside so be sure to bring lots of food with you. For example our lovely food box..
Eating inside a small car is not an easy task for messy eaters like me.
H, still with his camera attached to his arm, was wonderful enough to capture my lunch break for me.
Since the weather was starting to turn a bit stormer we had to replan our trip a bit. This meant I watched as H read the map and took charge of the navigation.
Instead of going for a hike back to more waterfalls we decided to head off to our hotel and call it a day. Remember we are out in the middle of nowhere so when I say hotel I am talking about a small guest house that was down a 2 mile gravel road.
Our long snowy road to our hotel
Seriously there was nothing around us and when H checked in and came back to report that there wasn’t a tv in our room but a radio in the common area for us to enjoy we just couldn’t help but laugh.
At this point it was only 5pm so we took our chances and headed into the town (pop.100) in search of food. Lucky for us our plan worked out and we were even able to find the local pool which had a beautiful waterfall right behind it. One awesome thing about Iceland, in almost every town you can find a geothermal pool and I highly recommend taking advantage of them.
To end off our evening H helped blow dry my hair.
He would kill me if he saw I posted this ha. He was in such a hurry to get food that this was his way of helping out. Boys know nothing about the women’s hair care! Our night ended with some homemade battleship and classy bottles of wine.
Being completely unplugged and just spending quality time together was such a nice break. I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time, it was great to step back from it all and appreciate the little things in life.
After a very stormy night we were more than happy to see the sunshine back the next morning so we could get a nice early start on our day.
The view from our room, so peaceful and beautiful.
Our second day brought more waterfalls, visiting the glacier lagoon and taking a dip in one of the oldest geothermal pools in Iceland. Check back next week for more beautiful Icelandic pictures!
