You know those first sunny days after months of darkness that give you hope that spring is around the corner? Well this was the kind of weather we woke up to on Saturday and H and I took full advantage of it!
Everyone in Reykjavik had the same idea as us, there were so many people out walking around downtown. Everyone was in such good spirits, one of those days that you just can’t help but smile. Even the ducks were out enjoying the sun.
One of my favorite areas to walk around on a sunny day is the harbor.
In the harbor there are quite a few restaurants and cute cafes that I highly recommend. You can also find several whale watching tour companies in this area.
When the sun shines it quickly becomes a busy place and this past Saturday was no exception. There were a ton of tourist out getting ready to take off on whale sightseeing tours and they couldn’t have chosen a better day.
There is always several ships in the harbor. Often you will see the big ships pulled out of the water getting painted or repaired.

You can always find something fun to do in the harbor!

While your walking around the harbor area you will notice a large glass building in all sorts of shapes. This building is called the Harpa and is the concert hall/convention center here in Reykjavik.
Over the weekend they were holding a food market at the Harpa and there was no way we were going to miss out on free food in Reykjavik. Not to sure what the tractors outside had to do with the food market but the vendors outside were handing out some tasty bbq treats so it was a good place to start out our food tasting.
The food market was a two day event where dozens of chefs came to prepare samples of some of their best dishes. Its an event to showcase some of the best Icelandic foods and after spending an hour of sampling these dishes I have to agree that we tried some amazing food.
All the food we tried was delicious, the sushi and those macaroons pictured above were my favorites! We didn’t stay in this food heaven for too long though, Icelandic people don’t understand the concept of waiting in line and there is only so much of being pushed around that I can handle.
We continued our afternoon jaunt through the city and ended our day out by the sea where we saw a beautiful sunset. This pathway is only a quick walk from my house and I love going for a walk by the water, it is so relaxing.
Such a beautiful day to be in Reykjavik. This was just what I needed to get me out of my funk, beautiful sunshine, yummy food and a walk by the water, oh I can’t wait for summer to come.
Question of the Day?
What is your favorite thing to do on a sunny day in your town?
