A Pearl in Reykjavik

After recommending a visit to the Perlan to you all a few weeks ago I realized I myself have only visited this landmark building once in the three years I have been visiting (and now living) in Reykjavik! What makes this even worse, I live just a few minutes away from the Perlan, and drive past it everyday for work.

How have I not visited more?

So when the sun finally made an appearance after several dark gloomy days H and I headed off to visit the beautiful dome shaped glass building and take in the beautiful views of Reykjavik from the Pearls viewing deck.

The Pearl ReykjavikSituated a top a hillside Perlan overlooks Reykjavik and its sparkly glass dome can be seen from all over the city. The Perlan has a large ground floor where exhibitions are often held, a viewing deck offering some stunning views of Reykjavik, several shops, and a revolving restaurant and cocktail bar at the top of the Perlan that I have yet to go to. (hint hint H)

On the day H and I visited the Perlan there was a large book and record sale going on. The items where all in Icelandic which made the books off limits to me but they sure were a fun site to look down on as we made our way up to the viewing deck.

The Pearl, ReykjavikInside Perlan there is a water fountain that is more like an artificial geyser shooting water high into the air at certain intervals. I made H hang out on the stairs until it went off again, and then again, and again, I mean we needed to get the perfect picture.

The Pearl, ReykjavikOnce I had seen the water fountain go off three times I finally was ready to venture outside to the viewing deck. If it is a clear day in Reykjavik you just can’t beat the view from Perlan!

The Pearl, ReykjavikBefore you go be sure to say goodbye to the dancing statues that greet you as you arrive to Perlan. Posing with them is encouraged.
