My European Travel Bucket List

My desire to travel is one that never seems to be satisfied. Even now as I am just returning home from a wonderful two week trip to Croatia I am already dreaming of my next travel adventure. Since I don’t get to spend all my time traveling, I am still working on figuring out how to make travel my full time job! I have a very long travel bucket lists. Picking just a few items off my bucket list to share was more harder than I thought! Here are a few of my travel bucket list items, European version.

Drive all over Scotland
wonderful-Edinburgh-Castle-Scotlandvia
Castles, lush green fields and stunning landscapes, sounds like the perfect place for a roadtrip! Scotland in many ways reminds me of Iceland, (at least the photos I have seen), minus the castles, and I would love to get to drive all over this amazing country and discover its beauty myself.

Visit the German Christmas Markets
Christmas is my favorite time of year and I can’t believe I had never heard of the German Christmas markets until recently. Thanks to some of my favorite bloggers I am now dreaming of my own weekend getaway exploring these markets, admiring all the beautiful crafts and sampling all the delicious food.

Walk through the tulip fields in Hollandtulip-fields-holland-more-great-pics-www-freefbpictures-comvia
When I was an intern in Australia there was another intern in our office from Holland. Her pictures she shared of her visits to the tulip fields were amazing and ever since then it has been on my travel bucket list. Now that I am living a bit closer to Holland I hope to see the tulip fields myself!

Go on a walking food tour through Prague
prague_toutvia
Prague has been high up there on my list of places to visit for a while now and after reading Margo’s post about her walking food tour through Prague it looks like an excellent way to explore the city!

Visit AustriaAustriavia
Ever since watching the Sound of Music when I was a little girl I have wanted to visit Austria. With every picture I see of Austria my desire to travel there increase even more. I have now increased H’s interest in Austria as well so hopefully a trip here is in our near future.

This list is just a very short look into my very long travel bucket list. There are so many beautiful places to be seen and so little time to do it! I am determined to see as many places as possible, I have a lot to cross off my travel bucket list!

Question of the Day?

Prague has been high on my list for awhile as well! x

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It looks so beautiful! I need to make it there one day.

  • http://confuzzledom.wordpress.com/ bevchen

I did a tour of Britain four years ago, and of course Scotland was included. I love it! Edinburgh is my favourite, but of course the more remote areas are beautiful, too. I also ADORE Austria. And of course German Christmas markets are the best. Great choices!

My bucket list includes Slovenia, Ukraine (not right now though. Sigh.), the East of Germany and Iceland.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Austria just looks so wonderful! Love that Iceland is on the list!

  • http://snowintromso.com/ Van @ Snow in Tromso

I love Scotland and definitely want to visit this country again! There are still so many places I haven’t visited there like the Shetland Isles and St. Andrews! And you definitely need to visit Germany during Christmas :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I really need to go to Germany at Christmas time! I plan to be on the lookout for any flight deals that may arise!

  • http://www.herewildlife.net/ Sandra Dötsch

I just recently started to think about travelling again through Europe and Holland is definitely at the top! And I can recommend German Christmas markets! Christmas is my favourite time of the year as well :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

The German Christmas markets just look wonderful!

Yes, same! Some of my family is from Norway so I need to make it back to my roots one of these days!

  • http://esthernovich.blogspot.com.es/ esthernovich

Ditto to all those cities! (except Prague cuz I´ve already been and i cannot recommend it enough, it is SO enchanting!).
Those tulip fields however are calling to me a little more than any other place right now, must be truly beautiful.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I have heard wonderful things about Prague, I hope to make it one day!

  • http://www.tothedayslikethis.com/ Sammy @ Days Like This

Scotland is a great one! I was in Glasgow over the weekend and I just wanted to jump in a car and drive forever!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

      Scotland just looks breathtaking beautiful!

  • http://www.adventurings.com Cynthia

Your bucket list is full of absolutely must-dos! Ambitious, but I think you can do it. One of the most unexpected things I’ve found in the past couple years is how beautiful and underrated Austria is. You hear a ton about Germany & Switzerland, but Austria deserves to be traveled through. It’s a magical country :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I have met a few people here in Iceland from Austria and they have really sparked my interest in their country, it sounds so amazing!

  • http://agirlandhertravels.com/ Polly

check out https://twitter.com/TasteofPrague. That will get you going for sure :)

  • Kristen Warren

yes please to all of these. take me with you?

Yes, now we just need to find someone to fund our travels :)

  • http://thethingsiamcrazyfor.wordpress.com/ Camila

I stayed in three of those countries and never even did those things and now I’m so sad! Such a great list of things to do in different countries! I lived in Scotland and it really is the best place for a road trip - especially that you can stop the car whenever you see highland cows, etc.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

What countries have you stayed in? Scotland looks amazing, perfect place for a road trip for sure.

      • http://thethingsiamcrazyfor.wordpress.com/ Camila

I lived in both Germany and Scotland and visited the Netherlands. Because of your list I’ll have to sacrifice myself and head back now to make sure I experience those things too! ;)

  • http://bristolinmypocket.blogspot.co.uk/ Sara Rose

I never heard of the German Christmas Markets either until I moved to England and every city had one! I’d love to go visit an ACTUAL German Christmas Market though!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I can’t believe we have not known about the German Christmas markets for this long. We don’t have anything like that here in Iceland so I really need to experience the German ones!

  • http://dianadegzz.blogspot.de Diana - Life in German.

Love the list, driving around Scotland is something I’d like to do too in the future!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It looks like the perfect country for a road trip!

  • http://www.alonewithmytea.blogspot.com Julie

Yes to everything except the tulips… they give me allergies. :(

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Allergies are def the worst, I understand that!

  • http://prettythingandco.com/ Madaline

Gorgeous! Can I come along on your bucket list!? I have to go to Scotland and just… be. It looks like the best place to take walks and just enjoy the gorgeous scenery. And castles. Got to see some haunted castles.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It really does, those castles and green fields look like the perfect place to go exploring!

  • http://somewhereyonder.blogspot.co.uk/ Claire (@Kurea_San)

Driving around Scotland is on my bucket list too. I hear the scenery is just breathtaking, who who doesn’t like a thick Scottish accent? ;)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Right! The accent is one of my favorites!

  • Gracey

    That’s a fantastic list…and all places I would like to visit too…although maybe not a food tour…I’m a very picky eater….and am always wary of new foods….but Scotland…yes, please….

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Scotland I think needs to be my next trip for sure!

  • http://theannabelleblog.com/ Anna Belle

Nice! i loved the Christmas markets when I was in Berlin - January felt so dreary by comparison :) (And Berlin’s markets are rumored to be not nearly as lovely as those in the southern towns!)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I wish we had Christmas markets, I really need to experience one!

  • http://www.the-lifestyle-project.com/ Danielle @ The-Lifestyle-Prj

My bucket list is a mile long because I swear I want to do everything! Every activity you mentioned sounds like it’d be wicked. I’ll have to do Europe in bits and pieces so that I can eventually see it all. Thanks for sharing these ideas!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Same here, my bucket list is never ending, there is just so much to see and do!

  • http://thepumpkinshead.wordpress.com/ Betty J. Ogburn

…Italy is #1 on my bucket list right now, but really do want to go EVERYWHERE in Europe, as well as quite a few places in Asia-but Istanbul, Germany, Denmark, The Netherlands, and The Balkans (esp. Riga) are also on the top of my travel priorities right now!!…

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Denmark is on my list as well, basically I want to go all over Europe while I am here!

  • http://www.californienne.com/ Marianne

Reading this post makes me think about how few places I’ve been. You have a great list here. It’s funny - I don’t really feel picky about what I’d like to see, I just want to go see it, if that makes sense. I’ve just spent far too long not seeking these types of places out. Thanks for the inspiration!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I didn’t start traveling until a few years ago and now I can’t stop dreaming about my next trip. I know what you mean though, I just want to see everything so I am not picky about it at all!

  • http://Czechesotans.blogspot.cz Em

I’m with you on Scotland; never been but want to intensely! If you’re headed to tulips, you should check out the cheese in Alkmaar, too :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Yum, cheese sounds like the perfect addition to that trip!

  • http://welaughanyway.blogspot.com/ Yalanda_Meshell

I think I can just steal your entire list and claim it as my own! I came across a travel quote recently and it said “I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list!” So true!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

      I love that quote!

  • http://voyageofthemeemee.com/ Amanda MeeMee

Holland would be awesome! Those tulip fields are so cool!!!!!!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

We have some tulip fields in Oregon that I have always loved but I am sure the ones in Holland would put those to shame!

  • http://bluehairinbelgium.blogspot.be/ Kerri Heritage

Yes! All these options are awesome! I would love to roadtrip around Scotland. I should get my butt to the Netherlands and check out the tulip fields, after all, I’m just in Belgium…
For the German Markets, my bf and I (plus friends) went to visit the market in Aarchen last Christmas, but I hope to back again this Christmas (without said friends) to truly appreciate it, and eat more of the food!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

The food at the Christmas markets looks so delicious!

  • http://wheretheheartblog.blogspot.com Caity @ Where The Heart Is

Great list - we share a few! I had a weekend where we kind of drove all over Scotland, and it was one of the greatest trips I’ve been on, but I also still feel like there’s SO much more to see up there! I can’t wait to go back!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

That sounds like a wonderful trip, I really want to drive all over Scotland!

  • http://www.amyandthegreatworld.com/ AmyMacWorld

I hear you that the travel bug just always wants to see more! And I love your list :) I’ve always wanted to drive around Scotland, too. We went there for a few days and I LOVED it and am dying to go drive around the Highlands. Since I am moving to Prague in just a few days, maybe I will be able to add more stops on your future Prague itinerary!! ;)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I can’t wait to follow along on your Prague adventure! Thanks for joining us for Travel Tuesday!

  • http://www.amyandthegreatworld.com/ AmyMacWorld

p.s. thanks for being such a great Travel Tuesday co-host!

  • http://sophieinclogs.com Sophie

You definitely should come to Holland and see the fields! It’s funny because actually the majority of Dutch people never even show much interest in them but they are just gorgeous. You can even see them when you’re flying in!
I would also love to drive all over Scotland (and England and Ireland hah), and to go to Vienna. My biggest want right now though is actually Croatia! Looking forward to your posts :D

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Croatia was amazing, I can’t wait to share some pictures! It is funny how you never really appreciate what it in your own area. Those tulip fields just look gorgeous!

  • http://www.katiestrails.com Katie

We did the Sound of Music tour when we visited Salzburg and it was amazing! I totally recommend it :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

That tour sounds amazing! If I make it over to Austria I will definitely check that tour out!

  • http://thecynicalsailor.blogspot.co.nz/ Ellen

Great picks on your list. I imagine it must be so much harder being based in Iceland as you can’t easily travel to other countries for a long weekend?

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It really is, I wish we were apart of the mainland but being out on an island it makes it much harder to travel. Long weekends aren’t really an option sadly for us.

  • http://stylishimoto.blogspot.jp/ Anna

My European travel bucket list is practically the same, this is such a great selection! I really want to go to the Christmas markets in Germany, they look perfect!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

The Christmas markets do look perfect! And the food looks beyond amazing!

  • http://englishgirlcanadianman.blogspot.ca/ Holly Nelson

Europe is very beautiful. My parents still insist that Austria is the most beautiful place that they have ever been!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I have heard that from so many people, I really need to get to Austria!

Proud to say we ticked the German Christmas Markets off our list…. now I just have to do the rest ;) The tulip fields look stunning.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Oh I am jealous, the German Christmas Markets look wonderful!

  • http://www.cutetravels.com Eimear {www.CuteTravels.com}

I have done quite a few of these things (Prague, Austria,Christmas Markets) and highly recommend them all. You have to go to Cologne for the Christmas market, I visited markets in four German cities and Cologne was ten times bigger and better than the others. It was amazing, and I am usually a person who hates Christmas. You can stock up on all your handmade decorations there too!

Keukenhof is really high on my list too, just missed it by a few weeks this year. I went to the bigger flower Garden in Dubai but the Holland one looks more lush (ehh, because it’s not in a desert, I suppose). I’m going to follow your blog :-)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Oh it sounds amazing, I will definitely look into Cologne when I plan a trip to the Christmas markets thanks for the tips!

  • Bianca Kramer

You should go to Scotland. I was there last week and it was amazing!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I bet, it looks so beautiful!

  • http://www.twofeet-oneworld.com/ Jessi

Those are some great highlights! I have Prague on my list for later this year and I’m really excited about it - might need to check out that food tour :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Prague was never really on my list until recently and it is getting higher and higher on my list. The food tour looks wonderful!

  • https://www.mazedays.blogspot.co.uk/ Cindy Maze

I’ve been to Prague, Holland, Austria and The German Christmas Market, but I can defiantly recommend Austria! It’s so beautiful there - Love your blog and this post! x

Thanks Cindy :) Austria looks so beautiful I hope to make it there one day!

  • http://www.truecoloursblog.com Casey

So many of these are on my list too!!! I can say we did drive around Scotland a bit last Fall and it was amazing! Such a cool experience! :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

A road trip around Scotland sounds like the best way to explore the country!

  • http://luyoutravel.blogspot.com/ Elizabeth Georgian

The walking tour in Prague is on my list as well! J wants to attend a weekend workshop in Prague and I will certainly tag along!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Yes! That would be a perfect weekend getaway:)
