Where Would You Go?

First off is anyone else having issues with their blog not appearing on their Bloglovin’ feed? I have read a few posts lately from fellow bloggers having the same issue but it is still so frustrating when it happens to you! So far I seem to be having no luck in fixing the issue but hopefully it will fixed soon! In case you missed my post yesterday go check it out, there are some beautiful pictures of Venice on there!

Now on to some fun stuff for today. As I mentioned/wrote an entire post on Monday I started my new job this week. It has been a very busy and challenging week adjusting to my new role but I am really enjoying it. I will say I wasn’t as prepared for the language barrier but I can already tell how much this job will help me with my Icelandic skills!

A perk of this job is the awesome vacation time. I just found out that our office is closed for the entire month of July which means its time to start planing a trip! Never did I think I would land such an awesome job my first 6 months abroad and I definitely didn’t think I would be planning a trip anytime soon! Now that we know we will be traveling in just a few short months though it is all we can think about!

So far we have talked about visiting:

Istanbul, TurkeyBlue_Mosque_Istanbul_Turkeysource
Istanbul, Turkey looks like it is full of culture and beautiful sites to explore. I know little about Turkey and it is a place thats completely different from anywhere I have ever visited but thats the fun part of traveling, learning about new places!

Hvar, CroatiaHVARsource
The beaches here just look amazing! And a beach vacation is sounding pretty great after our long dark winter.

Ireland/Scotland/EnglandEdinburgh-Castle-Scotlandsource
This is a trip H and I have been talking about for awhile now. We would love to travel all over these three countries, the landscape just looks breathtaking. This trip would be amazing but also very action packed with little downtime so I am not to sure this it the trip we are after.

Portugal
Portugal source
The colorful houses and beautiful beaches have my vote! H has been to Portugal before (lucky guy) so he isn’t so keen on this idea but I think it would be an awesome place to visit.

As you can see we have many ideas in mind on where we want to travel to. I can’t wait to dive into planning this trip. Its been one long dark winter so I am ready to get out and travel!

I would love to hear some suggestions from you all! Any places you recommend traveling to? What is your favorite place you have visited? Out of the places I listed where would you want to go?

Question of the Day?
Where are you traveling to this summer? Any recommendations on where we should go?

Linking up with Expat Diaries and Treasure Tromp!

Wow! Such amazing destination to choose from! Of those choices I’ve been to England, Croatia, and Istanbul. Istanbul is an amazing and beautiful city to visit with tons of delicious food to try, but if you’re hoping for some beach time, Istanbul’s not really your place for that. Although there are other places in Turkey where the beach scene is better and you could travel there from Istanbul. Croatia is AMAZING, especially in the summer. There are some incredible beaches and many old and beautiful cities. When we were in Croatia we had a car, so we drove along the Adriatic coast, something I would totally recommend! We also camped our way through Croatia, which saved a ton of money and were always close to the beach, but bring camping supplies with you from Iceland might be a little tricky.
Where ever you end up traveling, I’m sure it will be amazing!

Croatia is at the top of my list so this is some great information thanks so much for sharing! Sounds like you guys had an amazing trip!

Well obviously I’m biased towards England/Scotland :-P We went to Ireland for two weeks last year and I LOVED it! I also spent two weeks travelling around Great Britain a few years ago (we included Wales, too). It was a fun trip, but definitely full… there wasn’t much relaxing going on!

I’ve never been to Croatia or Turkey so I can’t help you there. And in Portugal I’ve only been to the Algarve and Madeira. I loved Madeira, and you can certainly relax there! Even taking things slowly, I don’t think there would be stuff to do for more than 2 weeks. We had 4 full days and could have done with at least 2-3 more.

We’re going to Vienna in June, not sure whether for a week or just a few days yet. Then my brother is visiting in July. So far those are the only plans we have for the summer. Jan *might* get accepted on a conference in Asia in August, and if he does he wants to take some extra days of holiday & get me to go with him, so I have to save holiday days just in case…

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I think England and Scotland is a trip that will have to happen soon for sure! That would be amazing if you get to go to Asia with Jan, fingers crossed!

I know what you mean about the thrill of planning a trip! We’re going to Portugal this summer, just the two of us and I can’t wait!! We’ll be staying outside of Lisbon on the coast. There is just something to me about having a view wherever you stay! My husbands been to Hvar. It was mostly work, but he got to play a little. I was a tad jealous. I’d love to get there too! Sounds like you’ve got some great ideas on the running! Look forward to seeing what you decide!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

That sounds like such a fun trip! I was all for Portugal but its a popular travel spot for Icelanders so H has been there a few times before. Trip planning is so fun though, can’t wait to start planning!

I vote England but that vote is selfishly motivated, of course. Sam and I went to Turkey and had an AMAZING time but we were about a day’s drive away from Istanbul so I can’t give any advice on the city in particular ;) x

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

England has to happen at some point for sure! Your pictures from Turkey look amazing, it is a top runner for us right now for sure!

I am sure any of these would be spectacular! I am heading to Istanbul this month and Greece in the Summer :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I love Greece! We spent two weeks island hopping a few summers ago and it was amazing. Sounds like some great summer trips ahead for you :)

Funny I just got a flood of your feeds from the past week in my bloglovin. I’d love to go to Turkey but haven’t made it a priority. I think I’m going to work on planning a trip to Portugal in July. Possibly Porto if Ryanair gets its shit together and starts showing flights there again. But Lisbon looks nice too. Portugal is underrated for sure. Depends what cities you want to go to in these countries but Ive been to London; love. Bath was alright and Stonehenge. Also Im going to Dublin in August. What types of travel do you like? Beach, shopping, nightlife, culture, food, etc??

    • http://therococoroamer.blogspot.com/ Brittany Ruth

Oh and I’ve been to Dubrovnik, Croatia. I thought it was beautiful. Definitely a small old town, like really small. I’ve heard it’s not so fun in the colder months.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Yes my bloglovin wasn’t working most of the week so sorry for the flood of feeds! We definitely want to visit England at some point but I think this trip were looking for more beach and culture so Croatia is a top choice for us. Portugal sounds amazing as well, H has been there a few times but I hope to visit at some point as well.

I’m doing the Copenhagen - Malmö - Gothenburg - Oslo tour this summer but I can definitely recommend Scotland/England. Haven’t been to Ireland yet but would love to go. But I’m sure you’d rather pick one of the other three trips after the Icelandic winter ;)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Those trips sound amazing! I would love to do all of those but your right, after the Icelandic winter I am craving some beach time!

  • http://www.chicadeedee.com/ Dannielle @ Chic-a-DeeDee

Turkey is a place I don’t know much about either, but a lot of English people go there on holiday so there must be something good! How lucky to get a month for an adventure :) If you decide on England let me know!!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Turkey is interesting to me since I don’t know much about it so its still a top choice. I will definitely let you know if we are headed to England!

I haven’t had the bloglovin’ problem but I’ve noticed it with several others. Do you schedule your posts? I think someone else told me that was their issue… with the scheduled ones.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I have noticed several other bloggers with the same issue as well so when it happened to me I knew what was going on. For the most part I do schedule my posts but only one was a scheduled post that wasn’t working. I am just glad it is all fixed now.

  • http://www.notentirelyperfect.com/ Stephanie

I just had your last 10 posts pop up on Bloglovin, so whatever it was it’s fixed!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Ahh sorry for the post overload! But I am happy it is fixed finally!

    Yay for traveling!
My favorite trip of all was PRAGUE and I recommend it 100% it was BEAUTIFUL and INCREDIBLE, and truly like a fairytale place.
Although your selection of places sound great too, so I´m sure whichever you decide on you´ll fall in love.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Prague does look so beautiful thanks for the tip I will have to look into it a bit more! Traveling is just so exciting no matter what:)

  • http://treasuretromp.com/ Nicole @ Treasure Tromp

Istanbul is at the top of my list too! and ps, all your posts are popping up now!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Istanbul just sounds so intriguing since I don’t know much about it! Glad my posts are working now thanks for letting me know :)

  • http://weiderjl.blogspot.com/ Jenn

The UK and Ireland are tippy top of my list :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I agree, those trips have to happen at some point for me, hopefully sooner rather than later!

  • http://agirlandhertravels.com/ Polly

Oooh, I’m heading south, but if I were in Europe, I’d definitely head to Hungary!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I want to head where your going!

  • http://pleasurablepursuits.blogspot.com/ Tracy O’Neill

I don’t think you can go wrong with any of those choices! I am dying to go to Turkey! But I love Ireland and would love to see England/Scotland too! Tough choices, but I’d love to be in your shoes!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I agree, I think where ever we choice is going to be amazing. It is a pretty great situation to be in:)

  • http://www.tothedayslikethis.com/ Sammy Dorn

All of the above would be amazing! Ireland is one of my favourite countries I have visited so far. Such a magical place. I don’t have my summer plans locked in yet. I am going to Amsterdam and Poland in May, I want to try and get to Copenhagen and I am going to Croatia in September!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Sounds like your going to have an awesome travel packed summer as well! I think Croatia is where we are leaning towards now, just looks so beautiful!

  • http://luyoutravel.blogspot.com/ Elizabeth Georgian

Fun! Depending on when you visit Scotland you may be able to see the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh which is awesome! This summer I’ll be spending a month visiting my old roommates in China. Yeah summer travel!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

How exciting, China would be so fun to visit!

  • http://ifsandsandbutts.com/ Alex

I did Ireland last July and it was one of my favorite trips ever ever ever. The people and scenery are incredible. If you go, you must must rent a car and just circle the country.

Also, ISTANBUL! But if you go there, don’t just go to Istanbul. From there, you can take a Pegasus (or other budget) flight down to one of the beach towns on the coast!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Great information thanks Alex! We would definitely rent a car if we go to Ireland and just explore all over!
