Last week I shared our travel miracle when we luckily found H’s debit card that he had left in a store in Venice. After that experience and the stress of walking frantically around those little streets our second day in Venice was much more low key.
We started off our day by heading over to the main part of Venice early in the morning. On the ferry with us were tons of children on their way to school. I couldn’t help but think, wow this is apart of their daily lives, how cool is that!I would love to haven gotten views like this on my way to school.

We had planned to start our day at the Piazza San Marco since we had missed it the day before. When we got off the ferry though we were greeted with a flood.

At first H and I weren’t really sure what to do, but when in doubt follow the crowd so off our shoes went and we continued wandering around barefoot.

I loved the fact that the restaurants didn’t let the water stop them and the waiters just pulled on some rubber boots and went along with their day.

Since the water was taking over most of the area we had planned on exploring we instead decided to spend our day enjoying some drinks along the canals.

We had seen so many people enjoying these fruity looking drinks so we had to order one for ourselves. The drink turned out to be Campari, a very bitter Italian drink that was anything but refreshing! It was nice though to take a quiet break away from all the crowds.
One thing I was a bit disappointed in by Venice was how touristy everything felt. Somehow the beauty of the city was a bit lost to me by the overwhelming tourist traps that seemed to be all over. Taking a break away from the hustle and bustle of the city though was a great way to appreciate Venice and its beauty and was my favorite part of our visit to the city.
Before saying goodbye to Venice that night we had one last walk around the city and finally made it to Piazza San Marco which was no longer flooded. The square was full of life with live bands playing, people walking around enjoying some gelato and entertainers performing their acts, it was a great way to end our time in Venice.

The following morning we left very early to start our journey down to Florence. I fell in love with Florence and can’t wait to share all my photos from my favorite Italian city. Tune in next week!
Question of the Day?
Have you been to Venice? Was it how you expected the city to be?
