Confessions From Childhood

After a week filled with pampering, birthday celebration and fun I can’t complain about much in life. So instead of venting out some Wednesday confessions today I am doing a throwback post and sharing some fun facts/embarrassing stories all about…ME.

… When I was little I was extremely shy, like wouldn’t talk to anyone shy (can’t you tell from the photo above of me and my little sister). When I am uncomfortable I tend to go back into my shy shell, but once I am comfortable I usually have no problem making small talk.

… When I was in middle school a boy told me my toes were so fat they needed life jackets. I am still a bit self conscious about wearing flip flops. Oh and that same boy asked me to prom 5 years later, I had not forgotten his comment and my answer was definitely no.

… Making phone calls to people I don‘t know, even distant relatives, makes me so uncomfortable!

… I worked one summer as a customer service representative for Enterprise. Basically I answered phones and got yelled at. It is by far the worst job I have had but it funded my Euro trip so I can‘t complain too much.

…. When I am nervous my hands get so sweaty and I have a constant feeling that something is in my nose.

… In high school we had a sub named Reece. When he told the class his name I said, “oh I love Reese’s penis.” What I meant to say was, “oh I love Reese’s Pieces.” Ya, so embarrassing and a few guys from high school still mention this every time I see them.

… Scary movies give me nightmares, no matter how unrealistic they are. When I was 13 and saw the Exorcism of Emily Rose I slept in my parents room for a week.

… On my 21st birthday I flushed my id down the toilet in one of the bar bathrooms. I was leaving for Vegas that next weekend and luckily got a replacement just in time!

Vegas I ♥️ U

… I was the pitcher for my softball team in high school. I still have issues with a pinched nerve in my shoulder from pitching and if I lay on my arm or use it to much it swells up and goes numb.

… One of my best friend growing up was my worst enemy at first. She even pulled my gym pants down in front of my middle school crush! Somehow that traumatic moment bonded us.

… I have two tattoos, both of them symbolize things that are very close to my heart.

… After being bit by a dog when I was young I did not like dogs. That is until I got Azora. I quickly became a one of those dog crazy ladies!

Azora Birthday
…When I was little I use to think I was going to be a big time country signer star and would walk around singing everything instead of talking. Luckily for everyone around me I finally realized how terribly my singing voice is, I can’t hold a tune to save my life.

…I sported some sexy braces in my pre-teen years. I am still self concious of having something stuck in my teeth so I always have to check my teeth as soon as I finish eating.

…I tend to have a lack of a filter on me and if someone says something I disagree with I have no issue voicing this opinion and arguing. This mouth of mine got me grounded many times growing up. I should have took my moms advice and gone to law school so I could argue for a living.

And now you have some important facts for a glimpse into my life. I clearly have been a superstar from a young age.

Question of the Day?
What is a fact about you? Any embarrassing moments that have stuck with you?

I’m the same with scary movies! Can. Not. HANDLE. When I was about 11 I went to a boy-girl party and for some reason we watched Scary Movie (yes - the comedy), and I was so terrified I had to hide behind a friend’s chair … and then slept with the lights on and my blanket wrapped entirely around my head (what my parents affecionately/meanly refer to as the ‘mummy’ to this day) for the next … oh, I don’t know … five years??! :p

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Haha oh don’t worry Scary Movie creeped me out the first time I saw it as well! I just can not handle scary movies.

  • http://englishgirlcanadianman.blogspot.ca/ Holly Nelson

We are the same!! I have that weird up the nose feeling when I am nervous and if I see someone look up my nose I feel like there must definitely be a bogey there so I am constantly hiding my nose! I also wanted to be a singer. My friend and I had dreams of being touring gypsies singing for money on the back of a trailer. I met one of my best friends when she punched me in the face to say hi. It was so dysfunctional I thought it was hilarious. We have been dysfunctional friends ever since. And I cannot handle scary movies either. I have a tendency to throw things when I watch them! I have no match for the Reece’s penis story though - that is mortifying!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I constantly feel like something is hanging out of my nose when I get nervous! Haha love the touring gypsies idea!

  • http://www.rhymeandribbons.com/ Amanda @ Rhyme & Ribbons

I can also be super argumentative! Maybe it’s the Gemini in us! I won’t lie… the “Reece’s penis” story definitely made me laugh! x

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I think it must be the Gemini in us! Haha I am glad I am past the mortifying part of the Reece story and can now laugh at it as well!

  • Kristen Warren

ahh love this. my hands get super sweaty when im nervous, and i get really shy around people i dont know but super crazy around people i am comfortable around. i cant watch scary movies. nightmares galore. my husband always pleads with me to watch one, i tell him i’ll have nightmares but he doesnt listen. boo. hahaha i cant hold a tune either ;)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It is the worst when my hands get super sweaty right before I am about to shake hands with someone new! Same here! I am always telling H I will have nightmares if I watch it, just means he has to stay up with me when I can’t sleep haha.

  • http://movebyyourself.com Kelley @ Move By Yourself

I used to be pretty terrified of talking on the phone too. Its gotten better over the years, but living in Paraguay it has come up again because now I have to talk to people on the phone in Spanish. Even worse.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Same here! I was finally getting better about having to talk on the phone then I moved to Iceland and have to deal with it in a different language!

  • http://ifihad100dollars.wordpress.com Julieanne Malley

I was soooo shy too as a kid (still am at times). I literally only talked to my dad and my mom on a good day haha. Kids can be so mean s sometimes! haha I still have nightmares about the movie the ring…woof

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

The ring terrified me as well! I was always sure a little girl was going to come crawling out of my computer screen in my room ha.

  • http://luyoutravel.blogspot.com/ Elizabeth Georgian

What a spill this was! The Reece story was awesome! I can’t watch scary movies or tv shows either because of the bad nightmares. I’ve had to give up watching the walking dead (even though it is awesome) because I get such bad nightmares from it.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Ha glad you enjoyed :) I could go on for days with stories like these! And scary movies just don’t work for me, nightmares for sure!

  • http://heleneinbetween.com/ Helene

haha too funny about your toes! and that job does sound awful! i thought i would be a singer for sure- not country but something like that!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I was pretty certain being a famous singer was in the cards for me ha.

  • http://bristolinmypocket.blogspot.co.uk/ Sara Rose

I worked as a receptionist last summer so I feel your pain. Answering phones and getting yelled at is the worst!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Answering phones really is just the worst!

  • Rachel Murphree

I’ve been out of the blogging loop for a couple of weeks, so happy belated birthday! I get so uncomfortable making phone calls, I am a texter all the way. And that Reece’s Penis story is awesome!

    -Rachel @ With Love, Rachel

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Thank you! I am a texter all the way as well. Ha glad you enjoyed :)

  • http://www.tothedayslikethis.com/ Sammy Dorn

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Haha I am not sure I even know lol.

  • http://www.foodboozeandbaggage.com/ Food Booze & Baggage

I hate calling people…I want to just be able to send an email :) I can’t believe you flushed your id I would have freaked! I do not miss some of the embarrassing moments of middle school/high school. Middle school was the worst. I once back-handed some boy in the middle of class for pulling the barrette out of my hair (though this was a build up of pinching and other annoying behavior)…it was very embarrassing.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Yes the good ole days of middle/high school and all the embarrassing things that happen along the way ha. Ugh boys were so annoying then, always trying to unhook bra straps and just being annoying!

  • http://anothercleanslate.com/ Kate @ Another Clean Slate

Movies about exorcisms or paranormal activity or those kinds of things always freak me out. And laughing so hard about Reese!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

My little sister loves the paranormal activity movies and I can’t even handle her talking to me about them! Haha yes the Reese story was a proud moment in my childhood lol.

  • http://voyageofthemeemee.com/ Amanda MeeMee

I’m gonna need you to post a video of you singing. hahahah ;P

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Haha after a few drinks I am pretty certain I am the future pop star!

  • http://www.thingsiamcrazyfor.wordpress.com/ Camila

I hate making phone calls, i’m just so awkward! I hate when people are like ‘call me’ because if I call whenever I feel like I’m interrupting! I was also terrified of dogs as a child and when you meet the right now it just changes :) Thanks for sharing your confessions :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I know! I am always like how about I just text/email you instead.I agree, once you meet the right dog it can change your mind!

  • http://meetatthebarre.blogspot.com/ Amanda Elizabeth

Oh no!!! How did you flush your ID down the toilet??? I was just talking bout embarrassing childhood photos…..I had a rough couple of years centered around when I was 12!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I am pretty sure I just dropped it and didn’t realize tell I saw it going down! Those free drinks on your 21st where not my friend! Right! I told my mom she should have home schooled me during those pre-teen years, so awkward.

  • Jessica Shannon

I always have to check my teeth as soon as I finish eating too, thank goodness for front-facing cell phone cameras! And OMG kids can be so mean, fat toes? Gosh!! My sister got called Captain Hook for like a year by some mean girls in middle school because they said she had a toe that looked a little bit curved under!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Front facing cell phone cameras are a lifesaver! Ohh that is so mean, kids really can be so mean!

  • http://www.quaintrelleblog.com/ Setarra

I love this list and getting to know you better. What a random and outrageous thing for that boy to say about your feet! The irony in him asking you out to prom 5 years later is hilarious lol. P.S. Happy Belated Birthday!!!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I know, what 12 year old boy thinks of things like that to say! Thank you!

  • Lisa @ Ameliorer la Vie

I laughed at loud three times reading this post!! You’re hilarious!! What did the sub say in response?

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Haha he didn’t say much, I was so embarrassed. He probably was just as uncomfortable as I was ha.

  • http://independenttravelcats.com/ Jessica - Independent Travel C

Great, fun post to read. That mean boy with the comment about your toes, so funny that he later asked you to prom and you got to say no (payback!).

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Payback for sure! I don’t think I will forever forget that toe comment.

  • http://www.notentirelyperfect.com/ Stephanie

Cracking up at the toe comment, so glad you turned him down for prom!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Haha I can’t believe he asked me, how could he have forgotten about the toe comment lol.

  • http://www.thegritsblog.com/ The Grits

Happy Belated birthday girl!! A fact about me….hmmm - welll not sure if many know this, but I am a major book worm!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Thank you! I love getting lost in a good book as well :)

  • http://www.chicadeedee.com/ Dannielle @ Chicadeedee

I loved reading these, I’m catching up on my blog reading finally! Boys can be so mean when they like girls, a “you look nice” would go much further!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Seriously, why comment on my toes boys need to learn that nice is the way to be!
