When I am traveling there is one thing I have to do in every place I visit…
Find the best view from above!
Whether it involves hiking a mountain or climbing to the top of the tallest building I will do whatever to get the best view.
And the city that I think has some of the best views?
Reykjavik of course!
Those charming colorful rooftops, I just love this view! I feel pretty lucky to live in a city that looks beautiful from every angle. From the colorful rooftops to mountain and sea views, Reykjavik is full of amazing views.
If you are like me and love taking in the view from above I have the perfect spots for your trip to Reykjavik. These four viewpoints are my favorite places to take in the views of the city and all of these places show off a different view of Reykjavik making it impossible to choose a favorite!
Hallgrímskirkja
The most popular place to take in the colorful rooftops of downtown Reykjavik, the view from the top of Hallgrímskirkja is my favorite in the city. I recommend starting off your time in Reykjavik with a visit to the unique and beautiful church Hallgrímskirkja where you can take an elevator ride to the top to take in these views. I just can’t get enough of the colorful rooftops!
Esjan
I wasn’t kidding about climbing mountains for a good view! Esjan is one of my favorite hikes to do, and the views all along the way are just as amazing as the views at the top. If you are looking for a hike to do while in Reykjavik Esjan is the place for you! This hike takes a few hours to do so if you are short on time and still want to hike up somewhere for a great view over Reykjavik I recommend hiking Úlfarsfell.
Laugarnes

Located just outside of downtown Reykjavik, Laugarnes is a historic site with a nice walking trail right along the sea. I love the views in this area, even if they aren’t technically “views from above”. With the ocean and mountains all around and the Reykjavik skyline in the distance it is a beautiful area to visit and get a different view of the city.
Perlan

This is another must visit spot while in Reykjavik, and I mean really who would want to miss out on this view?! Add a visit to Perlan and enjoy some time exploring around the area (there are even trees here, a rare sighting in Reykjavik!) and spend as much time as possible just taking in the views. I mean just look at how gorgeous Reykjavik is!
To make sure you get to see this beautiful city from all of these different views here is a map to help you out!

Now that you know my favorite views in Reykjavik lets talk about a new favorite blogger/instagrammer of mine. If you have not yet met Tanya from One World Just Go you need to head over to her blog and Instagram immediately! As soon as I found Tanya’s Instagram I couldn’t stop scrolling through all the pictures, her travel shots are gorgeous! Enjoy this interview I did with Tanya and learn more about her awesome travel story and find out some of her travel photography tips!
1. Welcome! Let’s get started with an introduction. Tell us a bit about yourself?
I recently graduated with a bachelor in business and fashion, but I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur and have my own business. I finally made my dreams a reality and created One World Just Go, where I could channel by love of travel and photography into creating a community of travel-obsessed people, that were inspired to see the world and embrace the traveling lifestyle.
2. You have been all over the world traveler with over 40 countries under your belt. How did you get started traveling?
The week after my final high school exams I took off on my own to Europe with no return date set. I came home 3 months later to start university, but the travel addiction had well and truly started. I then spent the next several years studying and saving during the semester, and then taking solo backpacking trips during my summer holidays with a gap year thrown in.
3. Out of all your travels what is your most memorable trip?
My most memorable would also be my most recent trip because it was 8 months straight of backpacking solo, which is also my longest time away from home. Turkey was by far the highlight out of those 8 months, which was all down to the amazing travellers I met and the insane hospitality of all the locals. It’s also such a beautiful, unique and diverse country to photograph. And the cats, omg stray (healthy) cats everywhere, and anyone who knows me knows that I’m a crazy cat lady.
4. Your pictures are gorgeous! Any photography tips for taking amazing travel shots?
1. Wear something that will look epic in your photos. I love bright printed dresses, kaftans and kimonos that will flow in the wind and really create that stand out photo that will have you going omg.
2. Take heaps of photos, and I mean HEAPS. Buy a large SD card and snap away. The key is to take several photos of the one monument, landscape of whatever you’re photographing, but from a bunch of different angles and perspectives. That way you’re bound to get your perfect Instagram moment.
3. Don’t miss a sunset when you’re traveling. Golden light and cotton candy skies make epic photos. Same goes for sunrise.
4. Before I go somewhere I’ll search the hashtag on Instagram to get inspired and screenshot all the places I want to check out and photograph.
5. Ask people to take your photo. You don’t want a camera roll full of selfies unless you want to create your own Selfish book a la Kim K.
5. Where is on your travel list for 2016?
Starting in April I plan to make my way around the USA, Mexico, Turks and Caicos and Cuba. I really want to see Cuba before the end of the embargo changes tourism there forever. More of Europe is also on the agenda; Kaelene has me daydreaming about Iceland now so I really want to tick that off my bucket list. I also intend to time my Europe trip with the Brussels Flower Carpet weekend (Google it, you’ll thank me). Seeing more of my home country Australia is also on the to do list. Yep I have lots of big ideas for 2016.
