Just Another Day in Paradise

You know those days that everything just seems to go wrong? Those days where you should really just stay in bed because everything you try and do just won’t go your way?

This was my Tuesday.

My morning began with an irritating message about my car back home (seriously this car is a big pain in the ass!). Anything to do with my car lately stresses me out so this message instantly out me in a grumpy mood. Attempting to shake it off with some delicious coffee I headed to the kitchen only to look out the window to see our first snow of winter had arrived.

Awesome.

As I have yet to put winter tires on my bike (because it is still October and I am protesting snow until November!)I opted to leave my bike at home and take the bus to work. This meant that instead of the usual hour I have to get ready I now had 20 minutes to be out the door. Enter in panic mode with me rushing around dropping everything I touched and cursing the fact that the bus leaves so early.

I swear it doesn’t matter how much time I give myself to get ready, when I have to catch the bus I always find myself running to make it in time. This morning was no different, and running to the bus after the first snow with icy sidewalks is not fun. Add in the fact that I grabbed H’s hat, which is much larger than mine and with every step crept further over my eyes, I was a sight to be seen.

Thankfully I arrived to the bus stop with not one fall (success) and patiently wait for the bus to arrive. Of course the bus arrived ten minutes late which meant I missed my connecting bus to get to work. This particular bus only goes every 30 minutes so instead of fueling my anger while I sat in the freezing bus stop I angry power walked my ass to work.

As I made the final leg of my never ending work commute my annoyance at the day began to slowly faded away as I took in the pretty sites along the way. Looking around at the winter wonderland around me I debated, how early is too early to decorate for Christmas??

First Snow in Iceland
A beautiful yet annoying surprise to wake up to.

Once I had finally arrived to work I laughed off the whole morning and joked with my co-workers about my rotten luck. Right after I said this I opened my backpack to discover my lunch had exploded and was all over my bag. My lunch was salmon, let that smell sink in.

Just another day in paradise.

Question of the Day?
Do you ever have those days when nothing seems to go your way? When do you decorate for Christmas?

Sorry your day was so awful. The snow does look beautiful though.

My boyfriend would be entirely unimpressed if I even thought about decorating for Christmas before December ;-)

The snow was beautiful, helped make the day better :) Haha same here, H will not be having it if I try and decorate anytime soon.

  • http://www.adventurings.com Cynthia

Beautiful yet annoying… that’s a pretty good way to put it! Days like that are usually unavoidable, so at least you did your best :) And you’ve now put your snow bike tires on?
I like to start decorating on December 1st officially, but I think any time on or after the first Sunday of Advent (usually last Sunday in Nov) is fair game.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

It is the perfect way to put it! I have not put my snow bike tires on, the snow left quickly after the morning, we often get a snow in October than not again for a few more weeks. We put up some Christmas lights in November but that is just to brighten up the dark winter days and little daylight we get. I agree, anything after the last sunday in nov is fair game!

I am so glad that it was at least a pretty sight to take in!! I hate days like that. It’s like you are doomed to be crabby about what ever happens next! At least you pulled out of it quickly!! And I always decorate the weekend of Thanksgiving. I love having that weekend to look forward to the official start of Christmas time!!!!!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Yes, I just knew after I woke up I was going to be in a grumpy mood for the day! They start decorating a bit early here in Iceland with Christmas lights at least but it is nice since the days are so dark.

  • http://sophieinclogs.com Sophie

I’m sorry your morning was so crappy! I must admit I laughed out loud at ‘angry power walked my ass to work’
What a beautiful sight though!! And as far as I’m concerned it would be totally appropriate to start the Christmas decorations now! I totally busted out my Christmas penguin mug this morning … I blame the person who made the ‘soothing classicals’ playlist on Spotify for sneaking in the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy :P

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Haha I was laughing telling my co-workers about my morning as well. Our office keeps playing Christmas music so I blame that for my desire to decorate already!

  • http://www.rhymeandribbons.com/ Amanda @ Rhyme & Ribbons

I’m sorry about you bad morning! I usually start decorating for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving (traditionally). It’s a bit sad that it’s already so winter like there, but your first snow does look so picturesque! x

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

I was more than happy to see the snow melt away and our fall colors and sunshine come back. It may be freezing outside but at least the sun is out to look at :)

  • http://www.ohheyblog.com Oh Hey Blog // Megan Denton

Well that Tuesday can just go jump off a bridge. Holy wow to the snow, when you never get to see that it seems magical. Decorate whenever you want, you’re the boss ;)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Haha exactly my thoughts both on my Tuesday and when I want to decorate! :)

  • http://ifihad100dollars.wordpress.com Jules Malley

These pictures are gorgeous though but I totally feel you on those days!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

The snow was lucky it was so gorgeous, otherwise I would have been a bit more grumpy about it :)

  • http://withlove-rachel.com Rachel Murphree

I’m sorry about the bad day and the car issues, but holy moly that is a beautiful view!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Yes, the beautiful view definitely helped my annoyance that morning, just love the magical look of snow :)

  • Beth

Ah, no! I hate those days. :(
I hope things are going better for you now. I know that looking at those gorgeous pictures of snow brought me a nice bit of peace and joy, so thank you for that. I’m a huge fan of snow, though I’ve never had to deal with it for more than a few days in a row…so that may be a joy of newness.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Those days are just unavoidable, laughing always helps :) I never dealt with the snow for more than a few days either so the snowy winter in Iceland is still a bit of a novelty for me, even if it can be annoying at times :)

  • Brianna DePauw

Looks so beautiful! Being in MN I totally understand the annoying yet beautiful surprise! :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Exactly! Annoying but beautiful is the perfect way to describe the snow :)

  • http://bristolinmypocket.blogspot.co.uk/ Sara Rose

How gorgeous! But Tuesday just didn’t sound like your kind of day. Lol

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Ha it just so wasn’t my day!

  • http://www.thriftygypsytravels.blogspot.com Katrina Elisabet

I was able to not laugh until I got to the part about the salmon… and then I lost it because I’ve had rotten luck with former tuna lunches exploding everywhere before! So, basically, I feel your pain. I hope your Wednesday (and Thursday!) were much better than your Tuesday!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Haha when I saw the salmon everywhere I laughed as well. We all have those days, so nice when the day is done!

  • http://www.adventuresofalondonkiwi.blogspot.com/ adventuresofalondonkiwi

Oh yes, those days are something else, aren’t they!
(I don’t think any time is too early to start Christmas decorating!)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

They really are! I like your answer, if we were roommates our flat would already be a Christmas wonderland!

  • http://nomad-notebook.blogspot.co.uk/ Lizzy

I definitely have those kind of days, but yours definitely did sound like it stunk, ha! The first snowfall is always exciting here in the UK- there is a mix of panic and calm. Everyone’s overcome with some sort of nostalgia and the thought of sledging, but people get frantic about how they’re going to get to work and how unprepared we are for the snow!

    Lizzy from Nomad Notebook

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Yes exactly, the mix of panic and calm is a good way to describe the first snow. I do love how pretty it makes everything look, even if it can make my morning commute a bit of a pain.

  • http://www.fullofbeansandsausages.com/ Holly Hollyson

Oh man, I can see how pretty it is, but I am really dreading it coming here!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

I was happy to see it leave later that afternoon, but I am looking forward to Christmas time with lights and snow everywhere. :)

      • http://www.fullofbeansandsausages.com/ Holly Hollyson

It is 22 degrees here today. Which is so nice, but we have been forecast snow on Friday :(

  • http://inkandadventure.blogspot.tw/ Jamie | ink + adventure

I’ve definitely had days like those! though in Taiwan they usually involve cockroaches and scooter breakdowns instead of snow and late busses :) from someone who has not seen snow in real life since early 2012, I can say at least it looks gorgeous!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Oh man, I am glad I don’t have to deal with cockroaches! These kinds of days are always good to laugh about later on, but they sure can be irritating!

  • http://thethingsiamcrazyfor.wordpress.com/ Camila

Oh I’ve had lots of those days in Canada - so annoyed by how transport is so affected by snow, but it’s a reality. And at least you have amazing sights, just wow! Those photos are absolutely gorgeous! I love snow so much and I know it’s one of those things I will miss now being in the UK.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

It really is! Especially when it is the first snow and no one was really prepared for the commute in the snow. But it really does make things looks so beautiful.

  • http://www.toandfroblog.com/ Mar

Its kind of weird to say since the weather is beautiful here in southern Ontario, but I miss the fall snow. When we were in Alaska, the first snow was always so exciting. These pictures are gorgeous!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

The first snow is always exciting especially when you get to watch the snow falling. It sure was beautiful but I am glad our sunny cold falls days are back.

  • http://www.tothedayslikethis.com/ Sammy @ Days Like This

Yes, hate those days! I am such a Christmas lover and went out and bought Santa slippers this week haha. I would start decorating now if my flatties would let me ;)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Yes love it! i feel like if the weather is as cold as it will be at Christmas we should at least enjoy the Christmas decorations!

  • http://agirlandhertravels.com/ Polly

That is a pretty bad-ass view to have when angry power-walking. I totally feel your pain at the winter commute - especially when it doesn’t get light until you’ve been at work for a few hours :/

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Yes exactly! I am not looking forward to the dark mornings at work, hello unproductive work days.

  • http://bluehairinbelgium.blogspot.be/ Kerri

I’m sorry about your bad day, but I really love the snow! I’m sure winter will be bringing plenty of these kinds of days… can’t wait. Sigh.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Laughing it off always helps make a bad day seem not as bad. The snow really is beautiful but I would be fine waiting a bit longer for it to arrive. :)

  • http://thewayiwanderlust.blogspot.ca kayleigh maryon

Everyone has days like these, I know i do. At least you could laugh it off and not let it totally ruin your day. bravo.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Yes, just one of those days for sure but being able to laugh it off definitely helps!

  • Alyson

oh boy! I know I would handle snow in October a lot worse than you did. Even if I was living in Iceland. And I don’t allow myself to decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving but I think it’s all about personal preference :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

I think not having Thanksgiving here has made me want to decorate for Christmas earlier than usual! And the fact that my co-workers are already listening to Christmas music!

  • http://themountainrambles.wordpress.com/ Sarah Grace

Ouch. That sounds like a rough beginning to a day. I know I’ve had a rough week, but at least it has been spread out through the days & nights. I noticed just this past afternoon that we actually got our first significant amount of snow that stuck to the ground.

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Yes it was not my morning for sure, I am glad the view was at least pretty. Some weeks are just not our weeks! We haven’t had snow again but I know it is coming soon!

  • http://www.twofeet-oneworld.com/ Jessi @2feet1world

Wow I didn’t think it was possible, but Iceland looks even prettier in the snow! My sympathies on your tough day… I definitely have those too.
My birthday is next week and it’s exactly six weeks from then until Christmas Day, so I absolutely refuse to consider anything to do with Christmas until after my birthday. After that, it’s open season :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Hope you have a great birthday, and a perfect way to celebrate the day after your birthday, Christmas decorations!
