DIY Snow Globes

Happy Friday everyone!

As I have mentioned before crafts and I do not go so well together. I am always the one that finishes my project and then admires how much better everyone else looks compared to mine. Needless to say I lack craft skill confidence. Since I have moved to Iceland though I have quickly learned that unless I want to spend a ton of money I need to get crafty and make some things myself. So I bring you my first DIY Christmas decorations.

I have seen the idea for making your own snow globes floating around on Pinterest for awhile now and have always been interesting in making my own. I surprised myself though with how well they turned out and just had to share them with you all. They were so fun and easy to make, and if I can make them anyone can make them! This is a basic list of materials you need, you can use more or less items to make your snow globes more personalized.

For our figurines we found these wooden pegs/people at the craft store that H was determined to make into elves.

H really got into his creation and they turned out so cute, I just love the hats he made for them :)

Next I prepared the tray we would be setting the snow globes on by first laying out some fake snow (or whatever material your using to make your snow). Another option is to glue the figurines onto the lids of the jars if you just want to place the jars on shelves and not have them set out on a tray.

We didn’t want our Elves to be lonely so we added a tree and a little present. We made the tree out of pipe cleaner and the present by folding up some paper into a box and painting it. Whatever crafty idea hits you add it to your winter landscape for your elves to enjoy.

Spray your jars with the can of snow to give it that snow fall affect you get when you shake snow globes.

And don’t forget to add some sparkle with lots of glitter.

Place jars on top of elves and now you have your own snow globe village to enjoy!

These snow globes are so adorable and a hit with everyone that sees them. Finally a craft that I made and am proud of. Our home is nice and cozy now with Christmas cheer and I am ready for the Christmas fun to begin!

Question of the Day?
Did you make any Christmas crafts this year?

Too cute! Crafting is SO much more expensive to do in Germany (as I am sure it is in Iceland, too), so I tend to avoid it but oh how I miss putting together fun projects such as this. This would be so fun to do for a Secret Santa party!

Crafting is really expensive here as well, I miss going to the dollar store to get everything you need for a craft! After looking at Christmas decorations to buy though crafting became the cheaper option (why is everything so expensive!). I agree this would be such a fun idea to do at a Christmas party!

This is such a cute idea! I’ve been crafting decorations too, and we made cute painted ornaments for our friends for little presents, but I’ve been unable to write about them because we are giving them away tonight. I can’t get over how pricey decorations are! I think we will be picking some up in the sales after Christmas, especially some more lights.

I know it is always best to hit up the after Christmas sales! I have so many decorations at home just sitting there in a box, why does shipping things have to be so expensive as well! I love getting homemade gifts though what a great idea to give to your friends:)

I love these! I was thinking throughout it that you were going to end it with somehow stringing lights under them, having one pop up in each… I want to try that!

Ohhh that is such a good idea! Never even thought of that, next year I will have to add that!
