My ideal Icelandic weekend…
It requires an escape to the countryside, delicious food and drinks, the northern lights and waterfalls, sunshine if we are lucky, and of course my Viking.
That is a tough list of requirements to met, but this past weekend more than fulfilled this list!

A glass of wine and my camera are also requirements:)
As soon as H and I got off work on Friday when we said goodbye to Reykjavik and headed out into the Icelandic countryside for an evening at Hotel Rangá . Sometimes you need to just get away from the city for a little weekend escape and Hotel Rangá was the perfect place for that. As soon as the Viking and I arrived we knew we were in for a treat, the hotel and the area around it are gorgeous. Just check out this view from our hotel room deck.
Viking not included with rooms:)
With the first requirement on my list checked off H and I had a bit of time to relax before it was time to check out Hotel Rangá restaurant for dinner, a meal that I was more than looking forward to after hearing everyone rave about it.
But before dinner a glass of wine on our deck and a stroll by the river in front of our room to watch the sunset.
Why can’t every Friday night be like this???
I was one happy camper by this point and we hadn’t even gotten to the food yet! Once we watched the last of the sun disappear H and I headed back inside to get ready for dinner. We then spent the next two hours enjoying one delicious meal, Hotel Rangá restaurant more than lived up to its name!
Delicious food and yummy drinks…Check!
Hotel Rangá is known for having some pretty spectacular Northern Light shows, their location makes them a perfect place to view them. It is still pretty early for the Northern Lights though so the Viking and I didn’t have much hope to see them. But then as we were finishing up our meal we head the clink of glasses.
“The Northern Lights are out if anyone wants to step outside to view them.”
Umm yes please! I dashed out of the restaurant not even waiting for my Viking, I just love the Northern Lights! Not only did we get to see the Northern Lights, we were treated to one of the best shows I have ever seen! More on that later, for now a glimpse of those natural beauties.
I mean is this real life? What a perfect evening!
The fun didn’t stop there as I still had one more requirement on my list before we could dub it as my ideal Icelandic weekend. So Saturday morning we headed out to check that requirement off my list.
Of course there has to be waterfalls involved!
Háifoss is a waterfall that recently came onto my radar, and since we were in the area after a lovely stay at Hotel Rangá I had to take advantage of it and make a visit to Háifoss and its neighboring waterfall Granni.
Aren’t these waterfalls amazing?! I think they may have stolen the top spots for my favorite waterfalls in Iceland.
After our visit to Háifoss my ideal Icelandic weekend was complete, but my Viking wanted to make sure this weekend would be unforgettable so he added one more stop to our adventure.
The fairytale land of Gjáin! I just love this place, my Viking, he is a smart guy.
Who knew it was possible to pack in so much beauty in one weekend, but thanks to Iceland it is more than possible! My ideal weekend, it was basically amazing, did I mention it was sunny the whole weekend as well! I have so many pictures from this past weekend so be prepared there is lots more to come from my ideal Icelandic weekend.
So who is ready to head up to Iceland for their own ideal Icelandic weekend???
Question of the Day?
What does your ideal weekend look like?
If you are heading to Iceland and looking for a place to stay in the south I highly recommend Hotel Rangá, H and I loved our stay and can’t wait to go back for another weekend escape.
