It’s The Little Things

Since it is February already (anyone else have an issue with spelling February or is it just me?) and -10 degrees Celsius outside right now, I thought some positive thoughts would be a good way to welcome the new month. When the days are dark and gloomy remembering the little things that make me happy are what help get me through. So here is to the little things, 8 of them to be precise, that have made me smile this past week.

1. All my lovely readers! Thank you all for your comments on last Wednesday’s post. I am so glad so many of you were able to relate to my blogging fails. And another thank you to everyone who filled out my survey, I so appreciate all the feedback and am so happy with the great responses I got.

2. I know I went on and on about it yesterday but I am still so happy I captured the Northern Lights on camera! Now I can share a little piece of the Icelandic beauty with my family and of course you all! In case you missed it (you will want to read this post!) here is my favorite picture from the night.

Northern Lights, Iceland

3. Before the Northern Lights made their appearance my Friday night was not off to a good start. For Christmas H had gotten me a heart rate monitor fitness watch that I had been wanting forever. So when this watch disappeared from the locker room bench I had set it down on while I locked my locker I was a tad bit upset. Like I cried to H and his brother in the middle of the gym, I know, ridiculous, but it had been a long week.

So where is the good news in this story? Well the gym called today to say someone returned my watch! Thank you honest person for bringing my watch back, you seriously made my day.

4. This picture my Mom sent me the other night…

Puppy LoveOh how I love my Azora! This photo basically made me tear up, I love it, thanks Mom!

5. The days are finally getting longer, yesterday it was daylight before 10am! Y’all this is huge, its basically summer in Iceland!

6. This (blurry, terrible quality, but I still love it) picture of H and I from the graduation party last weekend. My man knows how to keep me happy, give me wine and feed me chips.

7. Thanks to a sick day last week I discovered that Friends is on Netflix. Can we talk about the fact that I have only ever seen a few episodes of Friends until recently. How have I gone this long without seeing this show? Thank you Netflix for helping me solve this problem, I am loving binge watching the show.

8. The sun has made an appearance more times this past week than all winter! I made sure to get some vitamin D and take a walk after work on Friday.

Walk by the sea, Reykjavik Walk by the sea, Reykjavik Walk by the sea, Reykjavik Walk by the sea, Reykjavik This area is right outside my work, ya its beautiful I know. I can’t wait for the days to warm up even more so I can enjoy lunch by the sea again!

It may be all the vitamin D I have been soaking up lately or the fact that the dullest month of the year has passed but I am all smiles and ready to tackle February!

Question of the Day?
What is making you smile this week?

I always have to think about how to spell February!

This is such a positive post. Love it!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

I know right, the way to spell it is not at all how it sounds to me!

  • http://www.rhymeandribbons.com/ Amanda @ Rhyme & Ribbons

I always spell February incorrectly (I did just even then). I love that picture of H and you from the party! xx

  • http://ceciliaintherain.wordpress.com Cecilia

Never watched Friends? That is pretty much an impossible feat isnt it? I think I’ve seen every friends episode at least 4 - 5 each whether I wanted to or not..

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

I know right! I remember when the show was on TV and my parents always watched it, but it was on past our bedtime so I never did. I am making up for it now.

I tried to write February in Swedish in cursive the other day and it ended in just some loops as I totally forgot who to spell it in either language!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Haha I know I forget how to spell it in either language here as well, such a tricky word!

The fact that I’m 10 days away from seeing my family it’s making me smile so muuuuuch! Love your Northern Lights Pictures, you can put them in all your posts and I would never get tired of them! It reminds me that there are places where extraordinary things happen everyday. Keep having a great week Kiki!

Love that photo of you and H… perfect! And that’s great someone returned your watch :) In a country where the president is listed in the phone book, I would have almost respected this kind of respect and honesty.
I too am feeling much better after the end of January. New month, feelin’ good…. bring it on, February!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

I know right! I actually have lost my drivers license before as well and the person found me on Facebook to tell me. Love living in a place like that!

  • Jen

I would probably cry if someone took my HRM watch - those things aren’t cheap!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

I know right! And they are about triple the cost in Iceland vs the states which is were I got mine so if it was stolen I would not have replaced. So happy someone returned it!

  • http://letuswanderlust.blogspot.com/ Carly @ Let Us Wanderlust

Oh I’m so glad you got your watch back! Hooray for honest, decent people! That would have been terrible to have had it stolen :( I really love the chip picture of you and H, oh and the one of Azora. You guys are all the cutest! Xx

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

I was so happy when someone returned it! And awe thanks Carly, I think Azora is the cutest of us three I just love her:)

  • Samantha Bender

The picture of the Northern Lights is breathtaking, and the picture of H feeding you chips is so funny and cute! I’m glad that someone returned your watch!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Toms Wedges Twins! Yay! What’s making me smile is probably the burnnnning in my legs from cross country skiing last weekend (I know I’m going on and on about it on IG..) but I loved it!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Aren’t the Tom wedges the most comfortable things ever! I am in love with mine! And your weekend cross country skiing adventure looked amazing!

Have you thought about getting a dog there in Iceland? I honestly don’t know what I’d do without my furry sidekick. It’s nearly impossible to have a bad day when I come home to that adorable face! :o)

Something that made me happy today…already had a letter from the state saying we would be getting a decent state tax return! Wooo hoo!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

We have thought about getting a dog here but as I live in a flat and am gone all day I would feel bad leaving my dog cooped up inside. We will see tho as I tell H I can come home on my lunch breaks:)

  • http://www.seeyouinaporridge.com/ Kristen @ SYIAP

i got a bit teary thinking about losing my brand new garmin watch… thank goodness someone turned it in!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Seriously, those little watches are not cheap, I think I got happy tears when I picked it up.

  • http://www.brookemeaganjones.com/ Brooke Jones

I agree with V! You should totally get a dog in Iceland. Start working on that man of yours! Wine and chips usually do the trick too ;) I’ve actually started this meditation challenge that is making me feel pretty wonderful. Looking forward to seeing how I feel at the end of the month!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

I know right! I am always telling H I need a dog. Maybe one day but right now we are just away from home too much and I don’t want to have a dog that I just have inside all day. One day though! This meditation sounds really interesting. Do you do it everyday or does the challenge have different things for each day?

      • http://www.brookemeaganjones.com/ Brooke Jones

http://www.doyouyoga.com/course/30-day-meditation-challenge/ It’s about a 10 minute video each day that the instructor leads you through. That’s the website link where you can sign up and get the videos in your inbox. I just go to YouTube and search “30 day meditation challenge” and the first three videos are up so far. It’s with Do You Yoga.

Ahhh! When I went to Iceland, I wanted to see the Northern Lights SO BADLY and they never came out for me :( boohoo. Also, Friends is like the best show ever. I’ve been binge watching Gossip Girl…haha…such a classic!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

It sounds like you really need to come back so you can see the Northern lights!

  • Melissa Blake

  • http://writergirlm.com/ Martha

Haha, wine and chips are the best, aren’t they? Your northern lights photo is so beautiful!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

Wine and chips are definitely the best, if only they were acceptable dinners:)

  • http://the.pyreflies.org/ Jessica ThePyreflies

So many beautiful photos! And I haven’t seen Friends… my husband did (I thought it was strange when he told me he used to watch the show when he was younger lol) and he wants me to watch it! I am watching like one million other shows right now but hopefully I’ll get around to it soon!

  • http://www.crumbsinthebed.com/ Kerri

It took me many years to see Friends and when I met my bf he hadn’t seen it so we watched it all together, on DVD! I love that they are 20mins long, it’s s great length for a quick break in between studying or something other work :) We like to play “guess the title of the episode” because we are lame like that :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene @ Unlocking Kiki

I agree, the length is perfect for a quick break and they are easy to follow along and fun to watch:)

  • http://www.fullofbeansandsausages.com/ Holly Hollyson

Lovely photos I am so jealous of you having seen the northern lights! Luke and I are on season 8 of friends, we are loving it so much! I love Friends so much too, it is the perfect show to watch after a long day and just laugh:) And ugh, I know, any pictures I see of my dog make me tear up a bit and miss home even more!

      • http://www.fullofbeansandsausages.com/ Holly Hollyson

It is pictures of my nephews that do it to me! It is a tough life we have embarked upon, that’s for sure!
