Care to join me for a little road trip around the north of Iceland?
From ocean views to lava rock fields, charming small fishing towns and snow covered mountains, our views on our road trip in the north of Iceland did not disappoint. Road tripping in Iceland, it is just the best, you never know what your going to see!
During the three days H and I were in north Iceland for my birthday weekend we spent around 75 percent of the time in the car driving around. Okay, it wasn’t that much, but sometimes when your driving for long stretches with nothing but the good ole Icelandic nature in sight it can feel like ages! Lucky for me the Icelandic landscape helped keep me entertained and I was always making H slow down or pull over so I could take some pictures.
These quick photo pit stops left me with dozens of pictures of really nothing in particular other than some pretty view off the side of the road. I don’t want these pictures to go to waste so today I am taking you all on my road trip via a photo diary.
Buckle up and get ready to fall in love with Iceland even more!
See, the sun does sometimes come to Iceland and make everything green and pretty:)
This church in downtown Húsavík was too charming not to get a picture of. I made H turn back around so I could get this picture.
From sunshine to clouds, Iceland’s weather is always changing! And this shot, it just screams Icelandic charm to me, the small churches you find in the countryside are so pretty.
I just love this red house in the small fishing town of Siglufjörður!
No birthday road trip is complete without a pit stop drink with a view. Well, only if your not driving that is!
A long gravel road to no where. At least that is how it felt! The Blue Lagoon of the north, Mývatn. I just love this crazy blue water!
I spy three horses, do you?
I have it on my list to come back to the Mývatn area to go camping. Imagine waking up to this view!
Snow covered mountains, bright green grass, and still somewhat dead grass. Makes for an interesting and pretty combination don’t you think?
I of course had to end this post with my favorite picture from our road trip taken at our last stop. I just love the Icelandic horses!
In case your planning your own Icelandic road trip up north here is a map with a view of the places we stopped at along the idea to give you some ideas.
Question of the Day?
Are you a fan of road trips? How do you stay entertained on long drives?
