The Perfect Model

On our second day of road tripping through the south of Iceland we were so happy to get some sunshine after traveling in a storm the day before. By the time we had arrived at our hotel the night before we were in the middle of a snow storm.

As you can see everything was covered in snow so we didn’t really have any idea what our surrounding looked like. This made the drive out of our hotel the next morning a wonderful surprise. I think it took us a half hour to drive down the 2 mile gravel road because we couldn’t stop taking pictures of the beautiful surroundings!

Breathtaking right? Lucky for me this was what most of our views for the entire day would look like. A road trip is much better when you have something pretty to look at:)

This last picture pretty well sums up our trip. Me constantly getting out and running to take yet another photo before jumping back into the car. All of these photos were taken on our way to our first stop of the day, the Glacier Lagoon.

Our second day also included a hike to yet another beautiful waterfall and taking a dip in a geothermal pool a few miles back into the mountains. Next week I will share our photos from these stops. So many beautiful pictures from this trip, Iceland is like the perfect model to photograph!

Question of the Day?
Are you constantly stopping to take photos on a road trip or do you prefer to sit back and enjoy the view?

I now understand why people bike around Iceland, they don’t want to miss out on all those amazing views!

I love the picture of H taking a picture, so cool! Sometimes I’m in a photographer mode and running back and forth to take one picture after another and sometimes I’m too lazy and regret not taking a picture later…. ;)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I am the same, sometimes I just feel too lazy to take lots of pictures. Good thing H is always taking pictures but I usually regret not taking them later so glad to have him around for backup!

Lovely as usual! I have to say I do regret not getting further out of Reykjavik (as nice as it is) to see more of the island while I was there. But that just leaves more for next time, I suppose…

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I am still wanting to get out of Reykjavik more and more. Iceland is so beautiful outside of the city, I hope you get to make it back to explore more!

  • http://helloimcaroline.com Caroline Lindkvist

I’m also constantly taking photos while road tripping! We drove to the Geiranger Fjord in September and the views was AMAZING (pictures here: http://helloimcaroline.com/?cat=18) . Iceland looks aboslutely gorgeous too and I hope I’ll be able to go some day!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It is hard to not take pictures of everything when your road tripping, you get to see so many things! Iceland really is so gorgeous!

  • http://www.lifeinprogress.ca/ Kathy@Vodka and Soda

Haha I did the exact same thing on this road trip. Sometimes I was willing to get out and take a picture but others I was so lazy and took it from the car. So glad you like the photos!

It is so pretty! This is how I felt about NZ road trips, and I did a lot of running like you!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

After the pictures of yours I have seen of NZ I would be running around taking pictures all the time as well it looks so beautiful!

  • http://voyageofthemeemee.com/ Amanda MeeMee

I’m awful as taking pictures in general. I found some old ones from a road trip as a kid though… I was taking pictures of Coke trucks on the freeway and whatnot b/c we lived in the country and I wasn’t used to seeing them! haha

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Haha that is awesome. I grew up in a small town and remember thinking how awesome it would be to live in a city where everything was close by!

  • http://tidethatleft.blogspot.co.uk/ Amy @ the tide that left

    Stunning!

I should probably do more of this. I sometimes try to capture pics from the car, but that never works!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I am guilty of trying to get pictures from the car as well. Especially when it is cold and windy out! I forced myself out of the car a few times on this trip but the pictures were worth it.

I am all about stopping to take pictures, eat snacks, look at weird things etc basically adding hours and hours to any trip we take!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Yes! Snacks are just the best when your on a road trip.

  • http://www.rhymeandribbons.com/ Amanda

So eerily beautiful! I’d hop out as well! x

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

There is such a mysterious feel to the landscape here in Iceland, I love it.

  • http://meetatthebarre.blogspot.com/ Amanda Elizabeth

Gorgeous pictures!!! You are very lucky he stops for you :-) Mark would probably roll his eyes and lock the door lol but with that scenery how could you say no?

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I am lucky that H is even more of a picture taking person than me! I am usually the one rolling my eyes as I wait for him to take more pictures ha.

  • http://www.jadeoak.com/ jackie jade

gorgeous photos as always! reminds me that I need to stop and take more photos too :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Thank you! Sometimes I get lazy and don’t take many pictures and then I regret not taking the time to take the photos.

  • http://ifihad100dollars.wordpress.com Julieanne Malley

LOL this reminds me so much of me. When were in Ireland, I was like COLIN STOP THE CAR! and I would run across the street, over a fence, just to snap a picture

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Haha. I bet Ireland looks so beautiful I would hop over a fence as well to get a good picture.

  • http://agirlandhertravels.com/ Polly

Yup, I totally do this. “Just SLOW DOWN I want to take a picture” or “hold on, I just need to pull over…”

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

And I never give a warning it is more a sudden stop now I need a picture of this!

  • http://www.tothedayslikethis.com/ Sammy Dorn

I love taking photos on a road trip! Breaks it up a bit :)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I agree, it makes time go by faster so you don’t feel like your just sitting in a car the entire time.

  • http://letuswanderlust.blogspot.com/ Carly @ Let Us Wanderlust

Yep this is me exactly!!! Always getting out of the car (or literally hanging out of the car) to run and take pictures! What gorgeous views you saw - just like you said, The Icelandic countryside is the most perfect model!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

Ha I have some pictures from hanging out the window as well! The views I see here are always stunning!

  • http://www.amyandthegreatworld.com/ AmyMacWorld

I agree that a road trip with beautiful views is so much better! Or any trip, really…I remember our long train ride from England to Scotland went by so quickly because I was staring out the window the whole time! Taking pictures, of course, just like you :) Iceland is gorgeous…I love places where no matter how many pictures you take, you can never get a bad shot! Unless you get your thumb in the way lol ;)

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

I love when there is beautiful views that make the time pass quickly!

  • http://thecynicalsailor.blogspot.co.nz/ Ellen

Fantastic pictures - you’ve now pushed Iceland further up my list of places I want to get to next!

    • http://unlockingkiki.com/ Kaelene Spence

It really is a beautiful place to visit:)
