Must See Spots in Iceland - Bloggers Favorites!

BLoggers Favorites

We all know how much I love exploring Iceland and sharing its beauty with you all but today I thought it would be fun to hear from some other travelers who have recently ventured up north and get their take on Iceland.

I have asked some lovely ladies of blogland that I know have been to Iceland recently to share their favorite place in Iceland, some of these I still need to visit! Get ready for some Icelandic beauty, take it away ladies.

Kirkjufell Mountain

The most interesting place I got to visit in Iceland was hands down Kirkjufell mountain and the nearby town of Grundarfjörður. It’s like something straight out of a fairy tale! The road toward it crosses a large lava field and once you get in, you find yourself in the quaintest little place you could imagine. Some of the streets have French names - merchants from France settled there around 1800 - and there are some lovely houses in the area because the town makes a lot of money through the fishing industry. As for the mountain, it’s an amazing - albeit pretty steep and dangerous - hike which I would recommend to any experienced mountaineer. If, like me, you’re a beginner be very careful… The sunset view from the top makes all the effort very worth it though! - Sabina from Girl vs Globe

Snæfellsnes Peninsula

The Snæfellsnes peninsula is by far one of the most stunning spots on this planet I’ve seen. Filled to the brim with ocean views, mountains capped in snow with lava fields surrounding the base for miles, and vistas with views you won’t believe. Spend a day driving the peninsula and you’ll need to stop countless times for photos… it’s that beautiful. From Kirkjufell to Svörtuloft, the orange lighthouse at the Western tip, the Snæfellsnes peninsula is a must do while exploring Iceland. - Casey from Land of Marvels

Goðafoss - The Waterfall of the Gods

We loved the whole area in North Central Iceland and spent a few days exploring. This waterfall was one of my favorite spots in Iceland. We had the entire area to ourselves the afternoon we visited so we took our time climbing around the falls to different vantage points. It is located between Lake Myvatn and Akureyri right off the Ring Road, so it was a perfect pit stop for us. - Steph from Insert Classy Here

The Icelandic Countryside

Trying to select a single picture of Iceland is pretty darn hard! Do I pick picturesque Reykjavik, a stunning waterfall, or me in an Icelandic hospital getting stitches (the doctor was really cute!)? But I settled on this gorgeous photo of sheep at sunset. Because Iceland is all about going on an adventure and it was definitely an adventure chasing after these sheep for 30+ minutes! Here’s a hint, sheep can run really fast! So when driving around the Ring Road, stop and enjoy the sheep…and make sure to chase them around a bit!

Whale Watching in Húsavík

Of all the gorgeous places we went in Iceland, going on a whale watch in Husavik with the mountains in the background and seeing whales jump around in the ocean has to be near the top of the list. The guides made the trip great, and we saw quite a few whales, even two swimming together. Set against the backdrop of mountains surrounding you, on a sunny day, it couldn’t have been a more perfect experience. - Dannielle from ChicaDeeDee

Solheimajokull Glacier

While the Golden Circle is iconic and Reykjavik was beautiful, my favourite spot that I visited in Iceland was the magnificent Solheimajokull Glacier. Part of my roadtrip around Iceland’s south coast, I was mesmerised from the moment we laid eyes on it. As we trekked closer to the multi-faceted face, I couldn’t get over how many beautiful colours were contained within the ice, from greys to blues to purest white. Next time I’ll be sure to fit in a trip climbing on it!

Hjörleifshöfdi

One of my favourite spots in Iceland was Hjörleifshöfdi, a table mountain on Iceland’s South Coast. Hjörleifshöfdi is the most uniquely shaped mountain I have ever seen: It’s a solitary peak that suddenly rises up from the flat volcanic beach and the views from the top are absolutely amazing. The mountain is said to be haunted by the spirit of one of the first settlers in Iceland and there was definitely a certain sense of solitude, but also wonder in the air that made this place especially stand out to me. - Melanie from Melanie Fontaine

Reykjanes Peninsula

Last summer, my fiancé and I took advantage of IcelandAir’s awesome layover policy and spent a quick 17 hours in the country. We didn’t have long—but those few hours in Iceland were incredible. We managed to squeeze in a tour of the Reykjanes Peninsula and it’s the perfect little corner of Iceland to get a taste of the rest of the country! We saw the coast, a lighthouse, some adorable Icelandic horses, explored a geothermal area, felt like we were on the moon, stood on two continents, and swam in the Blue Lagoon—all of which are located on this one peninsula. It’s a great spot for that quick layover-and for a longer one, too!

Landmannalagur

Landmannalaugar, Iceland

I can’t even begin to tell you how difficult it was for me to chose just one place to share! With every new adventure I go on in Iceland I fall in love with a new place. But Landmannalagur, it was love at first sight. When I first laid eyes on those stunning mountains and too beautiful to be real landscapes it was one of those moments that took my breath away. I hope to make it back to Landmannalagur again soon so I can explore more of this area, I know there is more natural beauty to be discovered! - Kaelene from Unlocking Kiki

This has nothing to do with the post (which was great!), but how did you get that great Facebook widget in your sidebar? The ones that I’ve created on Facebook for my page have come out looking really unprofessional.

So sorry I can not find the website I used to make the widget! I will keep looking but I know it was something that I think I found when I was researching different FB widgets as I had issues also finding ones I liked.

I ended up finding it right after posting this comment, lol. I had some trouble with it too, though. It didn’t want to format correctly on my homepage, but I eventually got it to work. Thank goodness for Google!
