It is no secret that I love Instagram. From posting pictures of my adventures to wanderlusting over others Instagram accounts, Instagram is my favorite form of social media. As I love to spend as much time as possible on Instagram I have been thinking about how I can grow my little Instagram community and interact with my followers even more.
And then I had an idea…
I am excited to announce a new hashtag #UnlockingIceland! I will be using this hashtag to share all my adventures around Iceland and I would love for you all to use it to share your pictures of Iceland as well!
With so many of you heading to my neck of the woods I want to see the places you are exploring in Iceland so be sure to add #UnlockingIceland. Each month I will do a round up post featuring my favorite pictures from #UnlockingIceland, I can’t wait to see what you all will share.
And with that lets take a look back on what the Viking and I got up to during our last week of vacation via Instagram and the new hashtag #UnlockingIceland. I think we did a pretty good job of accomplishing my goal of fitting in some adventures!
Our week started off with a beautiful sunny Monday that was perfect for a hike. H and I headed to a new to us hiking trail, Úlfarsfell, which is just a short drive from downtown Reykjavik. I quickly fell in love with the fields of purple flowers, lupina, and took way to many pictures of them. This summery hike was the perfect way to jump back into life in Iceland.
My week just got better when this happened on Tuesday!
I mean how can you be homesick when your holding an adorable puffin?! Highlight of the week for sure.
On Tuesday H and I headed out for a day trip to Vestmannaeyjar, a chain of small islands off the south coast of Iceland. Everyone always raves about how beautiful these islands are and I couldn’t wait to see them for myself. Let me just say I was not disappointed!
Vestmannaeyjar has some of the most beautiful landscapes I have seen in Iceland, I can’t believe it has taken me this long to visit! An added bonus to our trip, the beautiful sun that treated us to warm weather all day long. A real treat in Iceland!
Our week adventures didn’t end there. On Thursday H and I took our exploring to our own backyard and spent the day in Reykjavik. Even though we live downtown it seems like every time we walk around there is some new place to check out. I guess we can thank the tourism boom for this, keeps things interesting in our neighborhood!
When you live some where that has 8 months of winter you really can’t spend any sunny day inside! And even though I see Hallgrímskirkja everyday I still love taking in the view of this beautiful church. If your visiting Reykjavik don’t forget to head to the top of Hallgrímskirkja for the best view of Reykjavik from above!
After hanging out close to home on Thursday we headed off Friday morning for one last adventure with a day trip to the Snæfellsnes peninsula.
I have only been to the Snæfellsnes peninsula one other time and I really didn’t remember anything from that trip. The Snæfellsnes peninsula is one beautiful place, the landscapes seems to change around every corner! From lava fields to waterfalls, beautiful beaches and of course the friendly Icelandic horses, it makes for a perfect day trip from Reykjavik.
This little cutie just didn’t understand why he couldn’t come into the car. At one point he had his head completely in while H was trying to gentle get him out. I was giggling like a little girl, a sound the horse wanted to investigate more and H liked to tell me was not helpful. What else can you do when you have a pretty Icelandic horse trying to get in your car??
The real purpose of our Snæfellsnes adventure though was not to try and befriend a horse, it was to visit the beautiful Kirkjufell mountain that has been taunting me on Pinterest for far to long. I love when I get to show my Viking a new place in Iceland and both of us agreed that Kirkjufell was totally worth the long drive. No wonder everyone wants to get a picture of this beautiful place!
A beauty right?
I just love having Instagram to be able to look back on my adventures. It makes for a pretty photo album if I do say so myself:)
I hope to see lots of pictures from you all visiting Iceland at #UnlockingIceland . So looking forward to joining in on all of your Icelandic adventures and sharing mine!
And with that H and I have one last day to be as lazy as possible before heading back to work. The weather forecast is looking quite promising and I am hoping to have a real summer day of laying out in the grass enjoying the sun for as long as possible.
Question of the Day?
What do you think of my new hashtag #UnlockingIceland? What is our your summer bucket list?
